My daughter is starting Queen Margaret Uni at Musselburgh In Sept. My husband and I are looking for value for money guest house accomodation for 2 nights ?any suggestions

Not a lot in the immediate area though. You might have to stay in Edinburgh itself. Look at the other pages on the scottishaccommodation site for ideas.
And book quickly, because the majority of the other students' parents will be wanting overnight accommodation too (including those at other universities). Finding an available room is likely to be more important than value-for-money, I think!
I know this is a little late but there is actually a travelodge and a premier travel inn both 2 minutes away from campus..
Travel across the country, through the very beautyful landscapes of the highlands and coasts.
Dont forget to try the few different scotish whiskys. Its a shame you dont visit a distilery. If you love the nature and like to relax, you find all what you need.
Just outside St Giles Cathedral on the cobbles on the west side towards the castle you will find a big heart. It is the Heart of Midlothian and the custom is to spit on the centre and it is supposed to bring you good luck.
Rugby internationals at Murrayfield - always a big occasion, but especially for world cup games.
People descend on the city from all over the country to meet up with old friends and support the national team.
I haven't been for years, but before the family commitments came along, I was a "hard core" regular! tickets (often a sell out);
beer tokens;
homing device to get you back to railway station at right time;
warm clothing
Definately take the time to visit the somewhat nearby city of Stirling. They have a wonderful castle there, it is just magnificent. I believe it takes a little less than an hour to get there from Edinburgh. It's a must.
More a couple of drinks than a night out perhaps, the Halfway House is a small friendly pub on the stairs between Waverley Station and Cockburn St (quick route from station to Royal Mile). Real ales (normally four, and particularly featuring Scottish ales) and Stowells Press cider, plus standard drinks.
Also small , well priced menu with soup, toasties, and Scottish dishes such as haggis, stovies and Cullen Skink. Much of the produce is source from Berwickshire (in the Scottish Borders), such as the wild boar sausages.
