We chose this hotel based on two things; availablity during a very busy International Rugby weekend, and I had Best Western Gift Cards to spend.
This is a great hotel, its located on a hill, in a quite area, but on a direct bus route into the city center. There is a Shell gas station just down the stairs where you can get snacks and stuff. The breakfast is fantastic, with all the proper Scottish breakfast fayre! There is a great restaurant, Buckstones, just across the parking lot, where I first tried Haggis! The rooms are superbly roomy for a european hotel and the price is always comparable and competitive.
The front desk staff are great and very helpful. The lobby, bar and eating area are spacious and staff very friendly, helpful and professional.
We went in March, so it wasn't super busy, and we are going back in August, so I know it will be busier and pricier.
Highly recommend it!
Unique Quality: The thing I really like about this place I think, is that it is a great price for a great room. Its hard to get that combination in a large touristy city like Edinburgh.
Without being in the city center, it had all the amenities I needed with the added bonus of being in a quiet, almost residential area. Our room overlooked the large park area across the road so it added to the ambiance.
although ive never stayed here i drop people off and pick them up in my taxi, iam yet to hear one person say anything bad about this hotel, unlike some of the bigger hotels. if you like golf there are about six different courses 200 meters in each direction, if you dont like golf just admire the views of the courses and the rest of the city, in a taxi you are five minutes from city centre.
Unique Quality: although only five minutes to city centre it can feel like your in the countryside because of all the huge parks and golf courses.the area surrounding is the second richest area of scotland after queens bay in aberdeen so you are in a very safe low crime area with lots of great local pubs and restaurants to choose from.
