Castle Accomodation

by corcatk about Borthwick Castle

Borthwick Castle was built in 1430. This was a great place to stay for a true castle experience. There are modern bathroom facilities, but there are no elevators and it is a climb up a narrow spiral staircase to the bedrooms. The staff was terrific and entertained us with music, ghost stories and a tour of the castle. Breakfast was included with the price of the room. This castle is rich in history and sits in a quite peaceful area, yet remains conveniently located near Edinburgh.

Travel Tips for Edinburgh

Popular location for filming

by gordonilla

Edinburgh has along history of being often at the centre of Scottish art and literary activity - in more modern times film and television have also become apart of the city and the area around it.

Many fictional characters have been turned in film and television. On a visit to Edinburgh I encountered this first hand! The photographs show the facilities available for the cast and crew of "Rebus" which concluded filming on Friday, 11 May 2007, for the coming series of the popular detective series. The stars had traliers and there was a selection of support vehicles and even a double decker bus which was in fact the crew cafe and eaterie.

So watch out, you never know when you may find yourself as an inadvertent extra to popular television!

The beach

by Gili_S

I walk all the way in the city to the beach of the North Sea. Well, it was early May, so you could not expect anybody swimming as early in the season as that. I think I would like to visit one day in the heart of the summer.

Perthshire

by keeweechic

Perthshire is lush in undulating farmland and lovely little market towns to the south and harsh Highland landscape to the north. The countryside is attractive in its small towns as well as the pretty glens. It is indeed a lovely part of the world to spend a day or a week in search of the great outdoors.

Blair Castle is located in Perthshire in the centre of the village of Blair Atholl.

Open daily from 1 April to 30 October 10am - 6pm (last entry is at 5pm). The 32 rooms are open to the public. You can also walk around the grounds.

Geldof's naughty daughter

Plush bar that takes the whole of the ground floor of this new hotel. There is a small bar at the front with a rather odd wall made up of mirrorball squares. Charge on through to the rear where the venue opens out with a large bar and lots of seating.

There is also the Lulu nightclub in the basement. Low ceilings, 70's underlit dancefloor and waiter service make this a great venue. When queueing to get in on a recent rainy night the doorstaff handed out large umbrellas which gets big marks in my book. Free entry before 11pm.

The hotel is owned by Montpeliers, now in their 15th year, they also own Candy Bar, Opal Lounge, Indigo Yard, Assembly & Rick's. Not a bad stable, eh? Smart casual
