One of the worst hostels

I read in some Scottish tourism magazine that this is one of the best hostel in town, what a disappointment. Not very secure, disgusting carpet and walls that desperately need to be redone, forget about being clean. Unclean toilets and showers and there is a co-ed shower which is not pleasant or right. Duvet covers are NOT changed!

Actually, there was a sign saying that they're looking for guests to clean the rooms and in return they get a free night's stay...that might partly explain for the poor state of the place.

Staff was friendly but not that helpful.

There is a free internet (which was not told to me) and unsecure luggage storage. However, it is in an excellent location - walking distance from everything.

Brodie's Backpackers Hostel

There are many centrally located hostels in Edinburgh and Brodies Backpacker Hostel, right on the Royal Mile, is one of them. There are four rooms (dorms) and in the dorm where I stayed it was four bunkbeds, it was a dorm for only women and the room was called Trainspotting. The hostel is very clean. There is a Kitchen where you can cook (and there is also free tea and coffee) and leave things in the fridge. For ladies there are two toilets and for everyone to share there are four showers (there was never any waiting time when I was there). There is one computer and you can use the Internet for free (but of course not occupy it too long yourself).
The room where I stayed must have been the coldest one, it was absolutely freezing and I got cold to the bones. It was cold outside and round the window it was a big draught.
The price is 9.90 pounds per night.
