Great place for young people

This hostel is located in the centre of the city. Staff is young, cheerful and helpful. I stayed last summer for 4 nights in a four bed female dorm. The room was clean with big lockers (you can get a lock key by the staff). Toilets and bathrooms were also clean.
Advisable for younger people because the location is central and rather noisy on weekends.

Unique Quality: Great location for both night life and sightseeing

More about Budget Backpackers

From Paris to Scotland

by Peterodl

I flew Easyjet from Paris to London Luton and then up to Edinburgh on Feb. 10, 2005.
I got to my hostel the Budget Backpackers and there was a bit of a problem with the door lock on my room so the staff gave me a key instead of a card.
I discovered that my shoes (Clarks) that I bought 2 years earlier and hardly wore both had a crack in the sole that ran into the bottom of the shoe.
I only discovered this when I took off my shoes and my feet were soaked with rain water from my day walking in Edinburgh. I was not happy.
I bought a new pair of Clarks in London but more on that in my London page.

I saw the castle and wasn't too impressed to be honest. Cost me 10 pounds so I was expecting a little more.
I took the City of the Dead tour that night and had fun at night in a cemetary.

My 2nd day I caught a bus at the Waverly Bus Station at 10:12am and went to St. Andrews to see the golf course 1 hour away. More of that in my St. Andrews page.

I came back and wandered New Town and found the Hard Rock Cafe and shelled out 22 pounds ($43.56) for a dinner, malt and a pin and watched the end of the Ireland vs. Scotland Rugby match (Ireland beat Scotland handily about 43-12).

I took in an underground ghost tour with a stop afterwords with the guide in a pub for a pint of beer that night and had much fun.

My 3rd day I wandered around New Town, the Waverly Station and Old Town with no real direction.
I took the Whiskey Tour near the Castle and took a witching ghost tour at night and basically froze the entire time but enjoyed myself all the same.
Trained back down to London the next day at 10am from Waverly for 4 1/2 hours to start my stay there.

The Castle Rock Hostel is a popular choice to stay in. I popped in for a quick looksee and it seemed pretty nice indeed.

I stayed at the Budget Backpackers Hostel and was very impressed by it. It's clean, relativly quiet and fairly spacious.

Anyone stay at the new Brodies 2 hostel in Edinburgh, Scotland

by snorkelman

I know that Brodies One, Brodies Two, and the Royal Mile hostel are the best located hostels and Broadies One and the Royal Mile hostel are the most social. But Brodies Two is the newest (opened in 2003).

Has anyone else stayed at Brodies Two? If you've stayed at another hostel in Edinburgh, compare it.

I am trying to figure out if it is better to go to Brodies One or Brodies Two.

No idea about the Brodie's, but I always go to High Street MacBackpackers in Blackfriars Street (go figure), just off the Royal Mile, and it is very friendly and very convenient.

Have a great trip, Jem

A new backpackers hostel just opened a few weeks ago on the grassmarket (great location). Not sure what it´s called but I´m sure you could find it thru google - looks good and will have all the benefits of being new as well-

I think I saw the one you mean, at the bottom of the hill down from Greyfriars Bobby´s statue. I could imagine it getting noisy there, right on the corner and opposite a bunch of bars. But maybe got good double-glazing.

Are you guys talking about the "Budget Backpackers" located at # 15 Cowgatehead? The website calls it "Edinburgh's Premier 4 star new hostel" Although the prices look good, the only review that i was for it was not that great.
