Where can I get the best Steak in Edinburgh?

by mjfeaster

Where can I get the best Steak in Edinburgh? I had reservations at the Witchery, but after reading some bad reviews about the food I decided to look elsewhere. Any advice?

Have a look at the List magazine for up to date reviews but the best steak I ever had in Edinburgh was at the Buffalo Grill in Stockbridge. I once had a huge T-bone steak there that took me ages to get through. It can get quite crowded on a weekend though so book ahead.

Travel Tips for Edinburgh

Winter Wonderland

by steventilly

Around Christmas time the gardens of Princes Street are turned into a "Winter Wonderland". There is a ferris wheel (the biggest in Britain after the London Eye), a few amusements for kids, an ice skating rink, a toboggan run and a German Christmas Market - all complete with outdoor food and drinks stalls, including the obligatory Gluhwein.
It's really fun and quite atmospheric.

go shopping at Almondvale. ...

go shopping at Almondvale. This is just opposite McArthur Glen and is very different so it's nice to see the two in one day if you have time. Almondvale is your typical shopping centre. 2 floors of shops like Index, bargain books, internationale etc. It's not really different to shopping centres in most cities but it's a nice change. The man in the black polo-neck jumper! lol. We were sitting having coffee in a little cafe (Rendez-vous: see below) when the most gorgeous bloke sat down at the table beside us. We couldn't keep our eyes off him, and were glad that our coffees were too hot to drink. Anything to keep us there longer!!

Stay warm and Dry

I alwyas use a squishy duffle on wheels. Lots of space but remains soft enough to sqeeze into awkward gaps. Easy to store under your bed when its empty. Layering is the way to go. I usually wear a sleavless vest which keeps the torso warm followed by a thin wool jumper and a lined jacket with a hood. In the colder months it is wise to take gloves, hats and scarves. Wear comfortable shoes there is so much to see you do not want painful feet slowing your progress. You will find everything you need You will find everything you need here I dont like cold water so I would wear a wet suit if I was thinking about getting into the North Sea!

Berwick upon Tweed

Nice little town on the coast a few miles East of Edinburgh that has a museum about birds as its main attraction (although I didnt see this). It has loads of free parking if you are driving and fancy a walk around it.

Scottish Themed Stores

by sparkieplug24 about Various

The shops sell mainly kilts and other tartan items but some sell local foods such as butter tablet, oat cakes and jumpers. They are dotted all over princes Street and street leading off Princes street and on the Royal Mile and old town. Shop around as you will find some are cheaper than others. Edinburgh Rock and sweet tablet are a few of my favourite scottish sweets. Edinburgh rock is soft not like the stick of rock you get elseware. Also if you must have a kilt by all means by it but look around dont just by the first one you see and feel it for quality if the price is cheap then the quality of the kilt will probably be cheap but if your only going to wear it once does it really matter but if you want to get a decent one shop around feel the quality of the tartan an dont be afraid to ask questions. Scottish hard wearing kilts usually are made with wool.

Also most Scot dont wear kilts except if they are a piper or are attending a wedding or other special event such as a burn supper. For kilts it depends on the quality I did see them for £20 but a really good quality kilt could set u back £100 - £150 but you can get reasonable quality kilts for around £40-60 and you can get special offers were you can get packages for casual wear for around £100 formal wear kilts tend to be more expensive as you will need a jacket so this could set you back £250 - £350. For the sweets dont pay any more than £3 and you should be able to get it for cheaper than this
