Overrated and Overpriced

We arrived at this hotel with great expectations. We a 4th floor townhouse suite for 3 nights during Easter 2004. This particular floor was not serviced by the lift and we were guided to our room by a duty manager. The room was spacious with a very nice view over the Dean. However the view was spoilt by the filthy windows, a result of local bird activity. I asked if the windows could be cleaned and was told "unfortunately not" because of safety issues. We cleaned them ourselves. The duty manager also informed us that there would be no room service because of a staff illness and given that there was no restaurant in the hotel, it meant we had to go out for all meals. except breakfast.

Breakfast was disappointing. The food was lukewarm and on the third morning, only part of the breakfast arrived, the rest came 20 minutes after we alterted them to this fact.

The hotel was in a very elegant street but the services promised were not provided and this made it extremely poor value.

Unique Quality: The hotel is in a quiet part of Edinburge and within walking distance of the city centre. Some of the rooms have nice views.

by bkathryn about University of Edinburgh residence

I stayed in the residence at the University of Edinburgh when I was there for a conference in April 2005. It was pretty basic, but it had all the necessities.
