We had a great stay in Edinburgh but our accommodation left us somewhat disappointed. We stayed in a twin room which was in an apartment with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. The kitchen was absolutely disgusting - fair enough, the accommodation is used by students for nine months of the year, but we had hoped it might have been cleaned before we got there. We also found a colony of little insects which appeared from under one of the carpets. Not pleasant! The room rate was very reasonable but I guess we found out why! I would advise anyone staying anywhere, not just here, to ask to see the accommodation on arrival, before paying upfront.
The hostel has accommodation in two buildings, New Arthur Place and College Wynd. If you are going to stay here make sure you get a room at College Wynd because only in this building do the rooms match the 'modern, spacious, clean' etc descriptions of the hostel's accommodation which appear in adverts on the web.
