I suggest the Quality Hotel http://www.qualityhoteledinburgh.com/

or search at http://www.departures-arrivals.com/edinburgh-airport-hotel.htm

Turnhouse is about 8 miles from the centre, up to a5 minutes drive, but with your early morning start traffic will not be a problem - just be sure to book your cab or courtesy bus the night before

The Quality hotel is good as an airport stopover. I've used it a few times. Often you get it cheaper at holidayextras.com than if you book direct with the hotel. Its prices do seem to vary dramatically though.

Thanks for you help,

i tried the quality hotel but i found it quite expensive (64 GBP per person per night!!). I'll be in the hotel for a few hours just to sleep.

Can you suggest anything cheaper?

Regards
Stefan

Yes, it can be expensive sometimes (though do try that holidayextras site, it is usually much cheaper than booking direct with the hotel especially if you book well in advance). It gives a couple of other options too - usually the Quality is cheaper but sometimes it isn't.

Cheaper hotels are less convenient for the airport in general. You could try searching for B&Bs on visitscotland.com using Edinburgh Airport rather than just Edinburgh as the search term.

Do bear in mind that airport hotels include airport transfers. A hotel that seems cheaper may not be so once you add the taxi to the airport if they don't have heir own complimentary transfer.

Travel Tips for Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a fantastic City,...

by KiwiRob

Edinburgh is a fantastic City, I believe it's second only to London out of all the Cities in Great Britian. I would recommend taking one of the hop on hop off tourist busses they offer great value for money. Hogmany, without a doubt Hogmany is the best party in Europe I have ever been too.

saturday night

by juzz

On saturday night lots of people go to pubs for live music. We listened to a good band in the dirty dick's pub, they did cover and people sang and laugh... I think it was really funny even if i didn't understand much :)
I was really surprised to see 15 to 40 years old people drinking, singing and dancing all together. It was a really funny saturday night, I wish it was the same in Italy too.

the loyal soul of a dog

by Manyana

i was taken by this dog's story and that it moved me to tears. when his owner died, the dog stayed over the owner's grave and cried for the next five years until he died on the grave. he refused to leave the grave for the next five years until he died.

in his memory and honour, this statue was dedicated to this dog, alongside a pub under his name.

if one thing to be learnt from this, how humane a dog's soul can be in an man-made evil world!

Rosslyn Chapel- interior

by uglyscot

There are so many carvings, pillars and stained glass windows that deserve close scrutiny, but the volume of people nowadays makes this very difficult.
However, I tried to capture as much as I could on my camera, and will divide them into categories.
Update 2008- it is no longer permitted to take photos or videos in the chapel

One of the most important features is the apprentice's column.

To visit the chapel:
from the Edinburgh bypass take "Straiton Junction" A701 to Penicuik/Peebles. Follow A701 to sign for Roslin (3 miles) once in Roslin Village the Chapel is signposted.

Price of tickets:
Adults £7.50
Concessions £6
Under 16's (with parents/guardian) FREE
Under 16's (in a group) £4

Espionage is a serious business...

by tashka about Espionage

It was about midnight, all pubs closed and we were looking for some place to have more fun. And there it was! And a great one! There are four bars in various styles and there's no entrance charge!

One comment - the club was empty, because it was vacation time in the universities.

Prices: the huge cocktail you see in the picture (the Pravda bar) cost about 14 pounds, - mostly juice and ice, but it was OK for the two of us. I didn't notice any dress code, I was in jeans, no problem.
