HEN PARTY HELP!!!
by Schmeghann
My Best Friend is getting married this August in Scotland. She wants her Hen party in Edinburgh. Does anyone have any ideas of what to do?
I would like to do something unique but everything I found, during my countless seaches, was very typical.
Please Help! ~Meg~

Read a book or two by Ian Rankin and visit a couple of his favourite pubs and places - OK it's still a "beaten path" sort of thing, but a little off it. Worth doing and the books are good reads!
Enjoy Old Reekie!

www.thewitchery.com would be where to eat - but do it at 7pm before the behaviour degenerates (not like a well behaved stag party, it is ; ) _

There used to be a Greek resturant near the Royal Mile where you could smash the plates....wonder if it's still there.
Us girls used to pub-crawl along Rose street, that was always a hoot.

I was also going to say thewitchery even before I read the previous post. You could go with a witch theme entirely and do a walking tour with a witch to warm up the night? The guy who did our tour from our hostel many years ago was excellent... really interesting and spooky.
Travel Tips for Edinburgh
Visiting the beach
by mvtouring
Yes it was very cold, but we decided to visit the beach near our accommodation which was in one of the suburbs of Edinburgh. We actually had to walk along the beach to get to the little inn where we had to go and get dinner as we were staying in a B&B. Here my sis and myself are sitting on the beach reading the local paper.
Nelson Monument
by balfor
Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile are must sees for the first time visitor. However, the Nelson Monument is one of the many attractions that catch a visitors eye. The Fringe Festival was incredible! What fortunate happenstance that I unwittingly scheduled my vacation to coincide with this event!
Tipping
by keeweechic
Tipping in the United Kingdom is very much at your own discretion. If the service is good, then it is considered good practice to tip. The amount is up to you, but around 10% tends to be standard.

Blair Castle
by ophiro
Blair castle is one of the most beautiful castles i've ever seen.
It's on the way to inverness/perth - a 2-3 hours drive from edinburgh as far as i remember.
This is a beautiful white castle with gardens and you can enjoy the place for a few hours on your way to the highlands or return to Edinburgh to enjoy the city.
Box Office
by leok about Festival Fringe Society
When the festivals get going the king of all events (whatever others may claim) is the fringe and the fringe society is it's home. Here you can pick up a free guide to all the events, seek advice, buy tickets, merchandise, postcards or just soak up the atmosphere.
This year (2004) the fringe runs from 3-25 August. Check out their web site for more details.
