Reliable brand

Stayed here overnight in December 09 after a Christmas "social" nearby. £68 for a double.

Reliable as usual with the HIE brand.

The only real downside is the poor quality breakfast in all HIEs, and it's included in the price so not optional. Watery OJ, machine made coffee and rather dry croissants.

I would have gone elsewhere but I was so hung over I needed anything to settle me down!

Convenient for the Royal Yacht Britannia and the Ocean Terminal centre etc.

Unique Quality: Very pleasant rooms.

If you join their loyalty card scheme, they always try to give you a quiet room - I was top floor and the back, so no chance of noise from passing drunks (inside or out)

Holiday Inn Waterfront

We opted to stay here because I refused to pay the extortionate prices being asked by the city centre hotels. This was a very clean and modern hotel, the rooms are a decent size and comfortable. Getting into the centre is not a problem as the bus service in Edinburgh is excellent and very reasonably priced. But beware if you intend to stay out late, the last service bus is about 11.45, there are night buses but they are not as frequent as the normal buses. We were a bit late one night and decided to start walking, after 45 minutes the night bus passed us just as we turned into the hotel. We could have taken a taxi, but we didn’t think of that at the time. My only gripe would be the breakfast; continental buffet’s can become quite boring after a while. However, I would be happy to stay here again especially during August.

Good basic accommodation

We couldn't get accommodation in any reasonably priced city centre hotels - so the Express by Holiday Inn was our base for the Easter Weekend. The hotel is actually in Leith just a mile & a half from Edinburgh's great sites. A good basic hotel, clean & comfortable rooms with the usual facilities we now come to expect in hotel rooms but rarely use. A continental breakfast is included in the room rate. The breakfast room is small compared to the number of guest staying - so go down to breakfast early to avoid the long line of waiting guests & have a choice of where to sit to enjoy your breakfast in relative calm.

Unique Quality: There are no unique qualities here but Edinburgh has so much to offer you will only sleep here.

Simple accommodation near the sea

Very clean, new rooms in this new basic hotel. The breakfast buffet is simple and is included in the room rate. I would recommend this very much, as it is close to the city centre (15 minutes by bus) and on a nice neighbourhood on its own. Good service also!

Unique Quality: Breakfast included. Everything so new it shines.
Even the public toilets are so new and clean, it hurts!
Too bad the EXPRESS BY HOLIDAY INN EDINBURGH WATERFRONT can be a bit pricey sometimes comparing to some others of its class with rooms costing close to a 100 pounds depending of the time. Usually around 70 pounds for a double.
