Pre-theatre restaurant for the Lyceum

by ian1917

Hi can anyone recommend a nice restaurant to eat in before going to the Lyceum on a Saturday night? Prepared to pay a bit more than the usual £12 for two mouthful size courses. Staying at the Roxburghe so anywhere walkable between the two would be perfect! Cheers.

The Atrium which is located in the same building as the Lyceum gets a very good name.

Hi

I have had dinner at The Atrium and its one of the best dining experiences I had in Edinburgh. I got an Atrium-tips on my Edinburgh page - feel free to have a look.

Cheers
:)

Have a look at The List, this is the scottish equivalent of Time Out and their restaurant reviews are generally spot on.

Travel Tips for Edinburgh

by jgemini65

You just need to walk and absorb the feeling of Scotland! Granted this area is highly geared for tourism, however, that should not diminish the experience! We were on the last tour in Holyrood Palace and ended up separated at the end of the tour! And came nearly face to face with Princess Anne! That was very memorable...with the police escort and all...but managed to avoid an international incident!

The Edinburgh Accent is a difficult dialect to understand and will take a while to get used to, just be polite and ask them to slow down a little.

The electricity supply as in the UK is 220-240 volts, you may be able to bring eqwuipment with you that has duel voltage.

Pub opening times Hurrah!!!! 24 in Scotland :-)<br.

Tipping 10% in restaurants in the norm.

Running down the English is a favorite sport here, so if you want to be safe just go with it :-)

Bridges View from Blackness Castle, Lothian

by stevezero

From Blackness castle you get fine views of the Firth of Forth, especially of the two Forth bridges.
The area around the castle is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Near the village of Blackness some 15 miles West of Edinburgh.

Salisbury Crags and Gorse - Close Up

by scotlandscotour

Here is a close up shot of the sandstone rock cliffs above Edinburgh - known as Salisbury Crags.

As mentioned in my Must See tips, you get amazing views of the City from here, as well as a real feeling of countryside. Heck, you could even believe you were up a mountain!

Allow 30 minutes to one hour, or all day if sunny. Looks magnificent at sunset as the red rocks catch the warm light.

Sometimes You Just Need a Good Fling

by MarieGutscher about The Fling and Firkin

Situated right across the street from the Internet Café – this little pub is warm and inviting.
I sat at the window and had a pint of Guinness and some chips for lunch with plans of people watching before carrying on up to the Castle.
That would have been fine but the people who sat next to me were so friendly I ended up sitting there chatting with them for hours!

The staff were very kind and the décor was simple but hearty…if you can use hearty as a descriptive word for interior design.

This pub is a perfect lunch/people watching pub! I was unaware of a dress code in this establishment but as a rule assume no jeans or sneakers will be allowed.
