More about Kildonan Lodge Hotel
Beautiful Scottish hospitality at the Kildonan Lodge Hotel
My husband and I stayed at the Kildonan lodge hotel earlier this year with our 2 year old son and I was overwhelmed by their hospitality and kindness as well as the beauty of the hotel itself. It is in a great location, with its' own car park which was excellent for us as we had all the associated 2 year old paraphernalia. The owner and staff were all wonderful and could not have done more to help, providing us with lots of recommendations for interesting activities in Edinburgh as well as catering beautifully for us as a family. I had phoned a few times before arriving to ask a variety of questions and each time they could not have been more helpful. On arriving at the hotel itself, we were happily surprised to see that the hotel lived up to expectation, providing a garden to play around in as well as beautifully furnished rooms and excellent food. It really felt like a "very posh" home from home! We will definitely return and would recommend the hotel to everyone planning a visit to Edinburgh.
Brilliant & Friendly Hotel, great base for a weekend!
What a great little hotel very warm & welcoming, we were made to feel at home as soon as we checked in! We had one of the executive rooms for two nights, the room was great very clean & well presented, absolutley nothing to grumble about! The sitting room is absolutley fantastic what a great place to unwind after a days shopping & sightseeing, the honesty bar is great! The cooked breakfast in the mornings is spot on, with plenty of cereals & yogurts on offer if you don't fancy a full breakfast. Overall we would highly recomend this hotel & fully intend to return later in the year!
Very Friendly and Helpful!
The hotel itself is beautiful, homely and cosy and also beautifully decorated. But what really stood out was the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. On arrival, the receptionist provided us with maps and an honest opinion about which were the more worthwhile tours and tour bus companies. It was wonderful to sit in the guests' lounge before bed, in front of the fire with a drink from the honesty bar - a treat in itself. A jacuzzi bath, breakfast, and a complimentary newspaper all made this a sumptuous stay! When our travel plans changed and we decided to stay in the city an extra night, the hotel regretted that they were booked out, but were glad to arrange alternative accommodation for us.
Right at home
After staying at a terrible B&B in london the Kildonan was a welcome change. It is beautiful and very welcoming. We stayed for 3 nights and weren't dissapointed. The rooms are spectacular and include tea, sherry, and even a safe. The staff was so nice and extremely helpful.
Home from Home
I stay here almost every time I visit Auld Reekie on business (at least 4 times a year) The hotel is clean, quiet without being boring and very relaxing. The owner is a delight and makes you feel part of Edinburgh as soon as you get there. The breakfasts are excellent. The house decor is traditional and very attractive. Its wonderful value. the only negative is that some of the bathrooms need a little attention - some are lovely and it depends which room you get, but they are all above average and that may be a picky comment! I have stayed here more than 15 times now! :) over 4-5 years!
Great location and stay
This was a wonderful place for our time in Edinburgh. Wonderful and helpful staff greeted us and we liked our canopy bedroom and modern bath with soaker tub overlooking the gardens. Computer available for our use too. This inn is located on the road where a very efficient bus line can take you all over Edinburgh and we enjoyed not having to drive anyway in the city. Great breakfast each morning. Well run and pleasant inn.
Perfect base for a trip to Edinburgh
I stayed there on recommendations from other TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed.
This is a small hotel, located in an old Victorian-style house. When we arrived, as we had let them know about the birthday, we had a well-appreciated complimentary bottle of wine.
We stayed in an Executive Room with a Queen Size bed and a jacuzzi.
The bed was the only bad point I thought. It was in fact what could only be described as two Single children beds' attached together at the base. I say child bed, because it was indeed VERY short, which made it uncomfortable to sleep in. Also, you couldn't sleep in the middle.
The jacuzzi on the other hand was lovely and well appreciated after the long walks around the city and Arthur's Seat. The water was a bit green, but it was explained it's an ongoing problem with the water company and the water is safe.
TV's got the terrestrial channels. There was an iron, phone, tea and coffee making facilities, etc. All we needed.
Staff were nice and helpful.
Breakfast was fine, but not excellent. I've definitely had better. But there was plenty to eat.
We were very close to the city centre (10 mins on the buses which were very frequent, up to every 5 mins), but yet far enough for our hotel to be pleasant and quiet/relaxing.
The value for money was also very good, considering that for that price you only get an "plasticky" Ibis in London...
All in all, I would recommend it and would stay again.
Loved the value for money
Arrived a bit late and weary after a long day of driving and was so pleased to be greeted by the reception desk manager,Sean, who answered all our queries clearly and concisely. We arranged a mutually satisfactory arrangement for two nights B.& B, then he further assisted us with bus services, tours and dining places for the next day. We have been traveling throughout UK, Irreland and Scotland and this service was by far the best we have received. athe romm, bed and breakfast was superb and we will be recommending this establishment to all our friends.
why stay anywhere else?
Wonderful welcome from Heather. My 'single' room was massive, had a 4 poster bed (as well as a single). nice touch was the small carafe of sherry and shortcake - just the ticket after a long journey. Recommended restaurant - the new Bell - was outstanding. I stay in hotels regularly, and the Kildonan Lodge left nothing to be desired. Even free wi-fi!
This hotel offers truly outstanding value for money. Convenient location, first-class service and a delightfully friendly owner made our Hogmanay stay in Edinburgh a memorable one.
