Edinburgh / Apartment

by al_mary

Greetings from the USA:

We would like to know if anyone is familiar
with the following apartment:

"Lady Wynd"
5/3 Lady Wynd, Grassmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2LH
Is this a nice area to be in ??

We will be spending 8 days in Edinburgh, and
the place looks ok on the internet, but I cannot
find many reviews on it ??

Is anyone familiar with the apartment building
or the street location it is on ??

We look forward to your input.

Happy Travels ..........
Al and Mary / USA

The Grassmakret is centrally located in Edinburgh, so location wise for touristing, it is excellent. The Grassmarket area has a lot of restaurants and clubs and can be noisy but having said that, it all depends.

I haven’t stayed at this property but I have stayed on Grassmarket and it is an ideal location being close to the Castle and the Royal Mile. It’s in the Old Town so history is all around you, I recommend a visit to the Camera Obscura exhibition close to the entrance to the castle, there are some wonderful views of Edinburgh from the top. Do be aware that this part of Edinburgh is not particularly flat so you will encounter many hills and steps when walking around. Grassmarket itself has many pubs along one side which might be a bit noisy in the evenings. If you want to visit one I would say avoid Biddy Mulligans at one end and go to the Black Bull at the other end. Another interesting little pub to visit close to you is the Bow Bar on West Bow just off Grassmarket. For a quirky eating experience I always recommend visitors to try Frankenstein’s, a bar with a Frankenstein theme built inside an actual church. There are details on some of the things I have mentioned on my Edinburgh page.

Have a good trip.

I lived on the Grassmarket and only steps away from Lady Wynd for almost 3years and loved it there. It it right in Old Town and you see the castle from there. Also close to lots of scottish pubs and walking distance to lots of good restaurants, the Royal Mile, not far from Princes Street which is the modern shopping area.

Although weekends can be rather noisy and sometimes a bit rowdy. But it is still a great location when you visit Edinburgh. You will definately get the right feel of Edinburgh!

Feel free to have a look at my Edinburgh page..

Have a great trip.

The location of Gilmore place is not one I would recommend as a city-centre/close to all the attractions. The area is ok. Residential, andgood for restaurants, bars etc, but, a 15 min walk (at least) to Princes street. Buses available though.

Travel Tips for Edinburgh

Take a hike up Arthurs Seat. ...

by topcorz

Take a hike up Arthurs Seat. Situated in Holyrood Park this hill provides some of the most spectacular views of the city...and its FREE. Every International Festival Fringe is as special as the last. To ensure you see Edinburgh at its best visit when this Art/Music/Theatre/Book/Comedy festival is on (first 3 weeks in August). The city is alive with entertainers, music and smiling faces.

Palace of Holyroodhouse

Palace of Holyroodhouse
The Queen's official Scottish residence, set against the background of Arthur's Seat, stands at the eastern end of the historic Royal Mile.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse stands on the site of the original guest house for the medieval Holyrood Abbey, and is used today by Queen Elizabeth II as her home and office whenever she is in Edinburgh.

Packing List

by Kodi01

Is there any way I can pack more days into my trip?Well, I ran out of pic room, so I used this space. Defintely a umbrella would be a useful thing to bring to Scotland. I went in June and it rained a littel bit.

if you don't have time to go to the highlands or the west coast go to the borders region of scotland. the drive is scenic and you're in the midle of nowhere. 'refuel' in cities like melrose for good local food. all these small town are beautiful and full of history.
a lot of battles were fought in this region

Great stores to choose from!

by Marpessa about Princes Mall

There are many great stores in the Princes mall, which is currently under-going a 'face-lift'. Stores to check out in the mall include: Kookai, The Body Shop, Quicksilver, Natural World, Gleneagles of Scotland, New Look, The Whisky Shop, Oasis, Xile Woman, Xile Menswear, and many more.

There is also a very large food court here that has: McDonalds, KFC, Baguette du Jour, Something Thai, The Coffee Stop and other food stores (both fast food and healthier alternatives are available).

Opening Hours
Mon-Weds, Fri-Sat: 9am - 6pm
Thurs: 9am - 7pm
Sun: 11am - 5pm

The website below gives a great overview of the mall, with details on each store.
