| | | | |
We stayed at the Melvin House Hotel purely by mistake - the hotel we had been due to stay in had double-booked our room, and made arrangements for us to stay at the Melvin House for no extra charge. It was a very lucky accident - the Melvin House was much nicer than our original hotel, and quite a bit more expensive! The hotel is located in the West End of the city, within easy walking distance of the city's attractions. There is on-street parking, but remember to feed the meter if you bring your car. Our room was in the basement, and was pretty small and pokey, but it was the last one they had available and we got it at very short notice, so we didn't mind very much. I understand that the other rooms in the hotel are beautiful. The hotel was originally built as the family home of the founder of The Scotsman newspaper, and it has been beautifully restored to its Victorian splendour. There is a comfortable resident's bar, where it is a pleasure to relax with a drink. Breakfast is served in a Victorian dining room. It was fabulous - I don't think we needed to eat again until teatime!
The decor of the hotel is what makes this special - it is like stepping back in time to the Victorian era, but with 21st century comforts. Leave a Comment
