Parliament Building
by 36waterfalls
This spectacular but apparently highly controversial building opened in 2004 and houses Scotland's parliament. There are tours and exhibitions, which I didn't do, since the queues to go through the detectors were ridiculous.
So I enjoyed this modern architecture from the outside, well worth it!
You find this building next to Holyrood Palace and Our Dynamic Earth.
Check out website for more information.

Haggis, tattie and neeps
by dotshand
haggis is a lovely scottish dish, made from mutton, meal, and spices, it is usually served with creamy mashed potatoes, and neeps, which is turnip. Sometimes a whiskey sauce is added.
Iron Brew is a soft fizzy drink that is bright orange in colour, the receipe for which is supposed to be a secret. Locals who have had a bit too much to drink the night before swear to it being good for a hangover (not that I would know of course)
Duddingston Village
by evaanna
Duddingston Village is situated only a mile from Edinburgh's City Centre. Bordered on one side by Duddingston Loch and on another by Arthur's Seat, it has preserved its rural character and remains one of the most charming places in the area. The central building of the village is the 12th century Duddingston Kirk, which was unfortunately closed when I was there just before sunset on a November afternoon. The graveyard around it has some interesting old tombs and on the left hand side of the entrance gates to the church, you can see the hexagonal stone building of the Watch Tower dating from 1824.The Tower was used to watch over the graves of the newly buried for 21days after internment. No, not to see the ghosts but to prevent the 'Resurrectionists' from digging up the corpses and selling them to dissecting rooms, which at the time had no legal way of obtaining bodies for anatomical research.
The church overlooks the loch, on the banks of which you can see some interesting gardens in summer months. Another important building in the village is the Sheep Heid Inn, the famous local pub.
The pictures of the church and the loch were taken by my friend Shane (uglyscot). Thank you!
Pentland Hills 3
by zizkov
There were several bonny sections of gorse, as pictured, near where we started, at Flotterstone. This is about 7 miles/11km south from the centre of Edinburgh.
There is a small visitor centre here, with basic maps, and a pub, the Flotterstone Inn. This is an old rural inn, though I am sure the farmers of 100 years ago would have choked on their pints at £15 for a main course in the bar. Pleasant enough for a pint though, with a beer garden. About ten draught beers, including Theakstons and hand-pumped IPA.
The second picture is at the west side of the park, near Balerno. There is another ranger and visitor centre here (Harlaw). You can have a fair walk around here, taking in the Harlaw and Threipmuir Reservoirs, and the Bavelaw Marsh, without venturing onto the hills.
Dirty Dicks
by steventilly about Dirty Dicks
The next place we went in was Dirty Dicks - and it turned out to be an affiliate of The Bad Ass, much the same style, decore, atmosphere... nice again, but not so different.
There is a third affiliated pub "Clever Dicks" on The Royal Mile.
