Hi All,
I'm getting married in Edinburgh this July 07 and I'm just starting to plan the details of the wedding. Any ideas of a good venue? We don't want flowers or a videographer or a hired band or anthing. Just a really nice restaurant with perhaps a private room for 20-25 people. Alternatively, we might go for a restaurant that is not as fancy but may have a stage with a house band or a house dj for some dancing. So if anyone can recommend a place that is similar to those descriptions, it would be much appreciated! Oh and this would be after the ceremony..we are going to try to that at a castle somewhere!
Thanks,
Deb
If you cannot find a castle to get married, there is a lovely restaurant on the outskirts of Edinburgh (Ratho). They cater for weddings and they also have a floating barge which is used for weddings. Will try and find their web site if you want.A friend at work got married at Direlton Castle, which is about 20 miles east of Edinburgh, near North Berwick, they might be worth a try.
www.bridgeinn.com is the web site for the restaurant with the floating barge.Gordon
A few other suggestions for castles:
Dalhousie Castle
Dundas Castle
Went to a wedding at Harburn House in West Lothian at the weekend: lovely wedding but quite unreliable venue!
Thanks guys for you suggestions. Any thoughts on restaurants that would be nice enough to hold my wedding dinner?
both of the places i mentioned would also cater for your dinner.
sorry, pressed send by mistake there. There is a great place called the Witchery just beside the Castle, not the cheapest place in the world but perhaps one of the better places to go around edinburgh. If you want somewhere with a house band or DJ some of the hotel restaurants might be an idea as it might rule out some of the nice smaller restaurants.
If you go to www.list.co.uk, click on dining out then edinburgh, and you can search under the option of "private dining" for some more suggestions.
If you are on a tight budget, there is the Ravelston Hotel in Musselburgh, It's a nice place and reasonably priced.Musselburgh is approx 4miles from the centre of Edinburgh to the East.
Orocco Pier in south Queensferry is a really swish venue. It has a gorgeous function hall recently refurbed and very modern and stylish with windows that look out onto the River Forth and the Forth Bridges. The staff are great and very accommodating and there are lovely rooms upstairs if you need accommodation.
