Distance & Bus Question for Places in Edinburgh
Next month we'll be staying at the Ben Doran Guesthouse (11 Mayfield Gardens). I'm seeing conflicting information on just how far it is from the Royal Mile. So, if anyone actually knows how far it is (or, better yet, how long it takes to walk from point A to point B), please let me know.
Additionally, does anyone know the nearest bus stop to the Ben Doran for the numbers 3 and 3A bus? I'm told that these are the two buses which take you up to Waverly Station from the Ben Doran (just in case we decide to bus it rather than walk it!).

This tells you the answer to your questions. Buses run all the time in the city centre so you will have no probs getting to waverley station that way if you want to.

Your hotels is 1 and a half miles from the Royal Mile and will take about 15mins walk to get there - but it's a direct route and if you want to take a scenic route (30mins) could go through Holyrood park which is lovely on a sunny day.

It suggests that there's a wide choice of buses going from your hotel (which is by Craigmillar Park on the map) to the centre of town -
3, 3A, 7, 8, 29, 31, 37, 37A
As far as I can see all of these at least cross over the Royal Mile even if they don't run up and down it - so you should never need to wait more than a few mins. They all seem to go to right close to Waverly as well - at least to North Bridge - although the 7 does not stop outside the Prince's street exit from the station.
One word of advice - the buses don't give change. I think your fare will be 80p per person.
