How to get from (Ryanair) Edinburgh airport - Glasgow

by picchio42

I am going to Glasgow (Stepps)at the beginning of February but I am flying to Edinburgh airport as Ryanair flights to Glasgow (Prestwick) have been suspended until March. Can anyone tell me how to get from Edinburgh airport to Glasgow? I've looked on the Destinations guide for Ryanair but it only says how to get into Edinburgh(understandably). Are there any coaches to Glasgow from the airport or will I have to go into Edinburgh and get the train?
(I understand Stepps is on the Edinburgh - Glasgow train line)

Not sure about buses - couldn't see anything on the airport website.

On the train, you might have to go into Glasgow Q-St and back out to Stepps. However, trains from Haymarket (nearest to airport) to Q-St are every 15 mins most of the day - except right now - emergency service due to cold weather.

All kinds of permutations depending on your time of travel etc on this:

Maybe some of them are really too complicated and it would be best to get into Edinburgh on the bus and get off at Haymarket railway station to take the train to Glasgow where you will need to take another train to Stepps rail station.
Train times also on here:

Thank you both for giving me this information so quickly. I'm relieved to see that getting to Stepps probably will not be so complicated as I had feared it would be

In Belgium when Ryanair diverts from Charleroi to Liège, the private coach company that runs the shuttle service goes up to Liège to collect people and take them to Brussels.
If the same doesn't happen between Edinburgh and Glasgow, there's a bus that goes into Edinburgh (, 25 mins) and from there you can take the train.

Sorry, of course there are also buses from Edinburgh Airport to Glagow, didn't check which would be faster and it may depend on your time of arrival. DB shows trains from Edinburgh-Stepps, changing at Camelon, taking 1h07, check for your date and time.

3 days 45 pounds
i dont know if it is worth it because the castle is not on it and national gallery of scotland is for free. so most things i want to do or did already are not on the pass.

Edinburgh Castle is a must see in this historic city! Just to say you stood on this 1000 year old structure is worth the visit! This is the small castle chapel located on the grounds! A very colorful guard awaits your arrival!

You're in Scotland - have a chocolate icecream wafer.
Go on, you know you want to. They're healthy as well (at least compared to the rest of the Scottish diet!).

Watch out: deep fried Mars bars are NOT a myth.

Old cemetary

The Old Calton Burial Ground has some famous people buried there.
Next to the gate is a sign with their names.
Among them David Hume, the philosopher.
There is an obelisk from 1844 commerating Thomas Muir, an exiled revolutionary and other ploitical martyrs.
And a monument depicting Abraham Lincoln with a slave kneeling at his feet is in memory of Scottish soldiers who died in the American Civil War.

Calton Hill (III)

by steventilly

The Royal Observatory is also on Calton Hill, some of which dates from the 1700's. It's a mish-mash of buildings, fitting to the mish-mash of structures on this hill.
There are other monuments up here too, to various famous residents or scholars. From up here you can get a good view across the Forth to Fife (on a clear day - we couldn't even see the bottom of the hill).
