More about Travelodge Edinburgh Central
Best value in the country

Have just returned from a two night stay at the Travelodge, Edinburgh central. Paid £10 per night on an internet deal. Unbelievable value for money, great location, although the Cowgate is a bit depressing, but that area is easy to avoid - just walk 100 yards in the other direction and you are on the Royal Mile. Clean and tidy. Basic, but you know what to expect from Travelodge. Staff were brilliant, very helpful. We chose to eat out because you're spoiled for choice with the amount of pubs in the area so I can't comment on the food provided. Got the same deal in January last year and will be booking again next year if it's available. Lots of pubs have entertainment but if you're into jazz, try The Jazz Bar on Chambers St. (near the Museum of Scotland) heard the best group of musicians ever and we've heard a lot.
Graet Value

Stayed in the Edinburgh Central Travelodge on a Saturday night when going to see Mamma Mia at the Edinburgh Playhouse. The location of the Travelodge is first class and only a short stroll away from the Royal Mile and Princess Street.
The accomodation was pretty basic but really clean and superb value at £55 a night for the centre of Edinburgh.
If i was to stay in Edinburgh again i would definetly stay here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great value for money - great position

We spent two nights here in early December, having spent the previous night in an overpriced and uncomfortable bed and breakfast. This hotel is in a great position; 20 metres from the Royal Mile and a five minute walk to Princes Street. The beds are comfortable and the facilities are more than adequate. The staff were very helpful too. Nothing bad to say at all, particularly since Edinburgh is quite an expensive place to stay. This chain offers budget rooms with some great offers to be found online. Can't recommend it highly enough!
Well-used but Clean & Comfortable

Typical city centre Travelodge: Well used room, scuffed furniture, slightly stale bathroom and dingy corridors but who cares at a special rate of £26 a night it was well worth it. Bang in the centre just off the Royal Mile and right next to a highly respected top class Vegetarian restaurant (which was actually one of the reasons for our visit). Spotlessly clean linen, comfortable bed, hotel bar open until 4am and cheap parking. Would happily stay again if the £26/night Internet rates were available.
Not Too Good
by TripAdvisor Member eldrakyn
First the positives, it is a very good location being a very short distance away from the Royal Mile.... and that is about it.
Now the negatives, The (small) rooms were noisy with doors slamming up to 4am (when they shut the bar). The Bar however was closed for 15 minutes at 10.15 on a Saturday night while they changed shift (?). Housekeeping hoover the hallways at 9.00am regardless of a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on our door. The toilet roll was not replaced during our 3 day stay, I had to ask at reception for a fresh one, also they did not replace the plastic cups, saying it was not policy for a multi night stay (I did ask why the second night wasn't cheaper if they are not giving the same service... I didn't get an answer)
I would not stay in this hotel again
Cheap and Cheerful

We have just returned from a 4-night stay in the Travelodge Central Edinburgh over St Patrick's weekend 2006 and the location could not have been better.
The hotel was fully booked, but having read previous reviews, I had telephoned ahead and asked for a room at the back, and therefore it was quite quiet.
We arrived late, just before midnight, and the bar area was busy but the staff were courteous and helpful. Once in our room, there was little noise. The room itself was clean and basic. It would sleep up to 3 adults, with a double bed and a sofa that can be made up into a bed. It isnt a pull out sofa bed, so would only sleep one (or two small children). My 15 year old daughter thought it was very comfortable! The tv offered 5 standard channels, Cbebbies and BBC News 24, with pay per view movies. The sink was cracked and the bath could have done with a drop of bleach, but otherwise the room was fine. During our stay, our towels were changed daily, but our sheets were not, but you wouldn't necessarily change your sheets at home everyday now would you!
We only bought the £6.50 breakfast on our last day, and it isnt worth it! It was an 'all you can eat' buffet style but we had to wait for more than 15 minutes for new supplies. If you come out of the hotel, turn left and walk not even 1 minute, you will be on the Royal Mile. There are lots of cafe's and pubs that offer better quality and value for money breakfast.
If we were able to get the £55 per room per night offer again, we would probably come back!
Best location & price

Located right in the middle of the mile, within waking distance of every place we wanted to see. A 15 min taxi ride from the airport. Buffet breakfast was not bad however the last morning we were there, the hotel was full and they had great difficulty seating people for breakfast and ensuring that the line ran smoothly. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms clean.
TIP: Ask for a room facing away from the street for a wee bit more peace and quiet.
Outstanding staff, great location, nice hotel
by TripAdvisor Member arf68
We spent two nights at the TL Edinburgh central in late April. The location is fabulous--close to the Royal Mile, Holyrood Park, and other great sights. We had a family room, which was on the main floor. The room faced the back alley and received lots of sunlight. It was spacious, clean, and the bathroom was very nice. The hotel is a budget-oriented hotel, so the rooms have no frills, but it is a clean and well-kept property. The best thing about this hotel was the very very nice staff. When we arrived--well before the check-in time of 3 p.m.--the desk area was a zoo of people checking out, etc. Despite this, we were served very quickly and with extreme friendliness. Our bags were stowed behind the desk, and off we went. When we returned later in the day, our room was ready and our bags were returned to us with the same friendliness. At check-out, we had yet again the same friendly service. This niceness extended to the bartender, who chatted with us about the run he had seen us take earlier in the day. Finally, though the fire alarm going off in the middle of one of the nights was traumatic, as we walked back in the night manager thanked us for our cooperation and extended apologies. Clearly, the hotel management place a premium on good service.
To sum: a good budget choice that is clean and centrally located. Staff are outstanding.
