It's had more reinventions than Ozzy and Michael Jackson put together, but retains a certain charm based on it's tolerance of under-age drinkers and its proximity to my house. Not sure about the hotel part, but the bar I can speak about with great authority, for it has been my home away from home whenever I'm at home, which hasn't been often in recent years.
Unique Quality: The small wooden hut in the kiddies playground is a great place to smoke spliffs when you've had enough of the Beer Festival which rolls around every February. Oh, and it's owned and run by Rod Stewarts cousin, Stirling Stewart. There's a photo of Rod behind the bar (circa 1974) on the way to the toilets.
Directions: On the main road into NB from Edinburgh, about 200 yds after the traffic lights. My house is on your immediate right - opposite the Golf Hotel - as you get to the lights so do honk the horn and give my old dear a fright.
