Mill of Eyrland: just perfect

This was yet another VT tip. Thanks guys.

It is a converted grain mill, in the countryside about 3 miles north of Stromness.

It has 4 bedrooms - mine had the shower room "ensuite" but I think with one of them it is along the landing (but private). The room was large and comfortable - OK it was just me in a "family room" with a double + single. But a couple of comfortable armchairs & TV.

A bonus feature is a comfortable & quiet guests' lounge - with wifi!

Breakfast is the usual B&B fest - fruit, cereal, toast & everything you want cooked. Lots of coffee. It is served at one big table, so you get talking to the other guests. Fun & sociable.

Morag gives a warm welcome. And you're free to come & go all day.

I had 4 nights there, and it really helped me unwind.

The communal breakfasts
The rural tranquillity
The friendly welcome

The Ferry Inn: I think it's the best.

Not fancy, but located in the heart of the city, offers clean, comfortable, resonably priced rooms. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Resturant food is very good. The homey Pub seems to be the meeting place for locals, fishermen and travelers alike. I would highly recommend The Ferry Inn.

Can be a bit noisy when the ferry docks but I enjoy the bustle. Island bus service stops just outside the door so you can get anywhere easily.
