Fascadail Country Guest House

Fascadail Country Guest House is well situated for exploring the lochs and glens of western Scotland. It is surrounded by large attractive gardens which look out onto Loch Long.

Although our bedroom was on the small side, it was very comfortable. The owners provided a folder in the room containing masses of useful information about the surrounding area, including walks, places to visit and restaurants as well as about the guest house itself. The owners were very friendly and helpful and ready to provide further information. The breakfasts were excellent and set us up well for days out exploring the area.

I have given Fascadail a 4* rating, but have little doubt that I would have given it a 5* rating had we been in a room at the front of the house looking out over the loch!

Ardgarten: Camping Club

The Camping Club also has a site on the shores of Loch Long, by the YHA and near the closed Caravan Club Site.
Had a look round here. Smaller than the other sites but very pleasant. All pitches were on grass and sloping so I guess in wet weather a motorhome could have difficulty with being bogged in.
Only appeared to have one access to the loch, the site having a fence or hedge around the perimeter.

Away from it all.
Magnificent views.

55 pitches. Members only.

Ardgarten: YHA

We didn't stay here but it is right on the loch side on Loch Long, next to the Caravan Club Site. It was the most hideous building, so out of place. I just hope the interior was better than the exterior.
Open Feb. to Dec.

Right by the loch.

Ardgarten Camping and Caravan Site: Forestry Commision

This was a massive site, all grass pitches, again on the loch side. We had to stay here one night on our return journey as the Caravan and Camping Club sites were full.
It was a Scottish Bank Holiday and it was incredibly busy with people piling in at all hours. They didn't seem to care where they pitched or how much noise they made. A very different kettle of fish from the Caravan Club Site.
I expect the facilities were ok, I don't remember whether I used them!
A shop on site was open 7 days a week. Also a children's play area.

Loch side pitches.
Another outstanding characteristic was the price. Outstandingly expensive. The most we had ever paid for a site. About £14 four years ago.

River Croe: Caravan Club Site

This was our type of site, only facilities were water , electricity if required and toilet emptying. When you have everything onboard, what more do you need from a site?
The wardens were friendly enough but we were told off for having a washing line!!! I suppose it was a bit "rules and regulations" but we are talking Caravan Club.

The best feature was the loch-side pitches and being able to inflate and launch our boat easily.
A very friendly site with lovely views. There were also pitches away from the loch with stupendous mountain views.
There was a footpath to the Forestry Commision Site which had a shop for newspapers and every day groceries.
