Things to do in Ayr in Mid November?

by TexasPride

Can Anyone tell me what there is to do in Ayr in mid November?

Second Question.....How do you correctly pronounce the town

Wear plenty of layers, with a good quality waterproof jacket!!

Seriously, It depends what you like to do.

Ayr has good shopping which will be geared towards Xmas at that time of year. The Burns Experience and Burns Cottage will be open, as will Culzean Castle and Country Park which often holds Craft Fairs on weekends in Nov/Dec.

There are lots of lovely walks around town - along the River Ayr or on the beach towards the remains of Greenan Castle. There are loads of Golf Courses to choose from, a good sports centre and swimming pool and excellent rail links to Troon (more golf courses) and the centre of Glagow(only 50 mins away).

Ayr has plenty of choice for restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Can't say much about the nightlife other than that - I'm not into clubbing much!!

Oh, and Maybole is pronounced much as it looks with -bole as in bowl.

Hope this is helpful!

Travel Tips for Ayr

The 200 acre park that surrounds Dean Castle is free entry and contains two childrens play areas [one is designated for older kids 8-14 and the other for younger kids] a childrens zoo, visitor centre and riding centre. We just went on a quick walk through the woodland past the quarrie pond and back to the river. I plan to go again soon to have a proper look around.

location entrance is on Dean Road, Kilmarnock

This 13th century bridge is most famous for having featured in the poem "Tam O'Shanter". After disturbing the witches party in the Auld Kirk they chased him but as EVERYONE KNOWS *cough*, witches cannot cross water and so they couldn't follow him once he crossed the Brig O'Doon. However one of the witches pulled off the tail of his horse Meg on the bridge. The bridge is now pedestrian as the main Alloway to Maybole road now crosses a newer bridge downstream.

Shanghai rendezvous restaurant

by Freddyedy

"This restaurant was finally closed"

Shanghai rendezvous was so badly run and offered such bad service and poor food. The council were about to close it down, but the bank evicted the terrible operators and took over the place from the bankrupt owner who has massive debts to a great many folk.

Thank God it is shut. A definite eating risk to the public.
