A few miles north of Ayr, just off the A78, is the town of Irvine. Not many historic sights to be seen here, given its a new town. It is, however, home to numerous golf courses, the Magnum leisure centre [with swimming pool, ice rink, bowling, squash, badminton as well as a bar and various events], lovely beach and some nice indoor shopping at the Rivergate centre. There are some nice buildings around the High St though, like those pictured
We went for a lovely bike ride along the dedicated footpath/cycle path that runs up stream along the River Ayr.
It was a really beautiful and quiet path that goes through the golf club, where we went off along paths and tracks ending up at the agricultural college, before returning to Ayr and back along the opposite side of the riverbank.
Ayrshire - it's a place we had visited briefly before.
This time we drove through there on the way back from the Isle of Skye, and managed to see a bit more, although time was pressing and we really must get back there again and give it the time that it surely deserves.
