by TexasPride

My Girlfriend and I are getting married in mid Nov'04 in Maybole Scotland.....Just wondering if there are any recommindations for decently priced Romantic places to stay.

Try the Culag Lochside Guesthouse in Luss on Loch Lomond. the rooms are small but totally charming and have every amenity you could desire. It is right on the lake and your window will have a gorgeous view.
trails take you around the lake or into the hills and when you do wish to get back to somesort of civilization the town of Luss is about a 20 minute walk via a lakeside path for pub & restaurant dining. Boat hire is also available should you wish to go out on the lake or find some secluded beach. Patrick Farrell is a charming host and will give you all the privacy you desire while at the same time will give you great suggestions for day journeys.

Just realized I started answering before reading all of your question. Loch Lomond isn't in Ayr - but would be worth the drive.

Why Maybole? And its a long way from Loch Lomand. Why not check out Turnberry Hotel. You are coming out of season so you might get a cheap deal.

It's possible to stay in the Eisenhower apartment at Culzean Castle near Maybole - that's if you're a wealthy texan of course!!

If you're budget doesn't stretch to that there's The Brig 'O Doon Hotel in Alloway - right in the heart of Burns Country and excellent food.

Ice cream at Renaldo's

by MartinSelway

Renaldo's is next door to the Wellington (so you don't have to go far for desert!).

They describe themselves as 'Old Fasioned Italian Ice Cream'. 22 flavours, 90p a cone.

They also have a large selection of rock, gifts and souveniers.

LAIGH MILTON VIADUCT

by hevbell

This doesn't look like much - and I just ended up here when on a drive of discovery around my local countryside after following the tourist route signposts - but it is actually the oldest remaining public railway viaduct in the world so I guess thats something! It was built 1809-11 and was part of the Kilmarnock and Troon line, Scotlands first public railway. It was closed in 1848 when a new timber viaduct came into use but was saved from collapse and preserved in the late 1990s.

The tracks are long gone but you can walk along the path beside the river Irvine and up onto the bridge.

location Between Kilmarnock & Dundonald [follow signposts] near Gatehead.

Brig O Doon

by MartinSelway

This is the famous bridge referred to in Burn's poem when Tam O' Shanter was chased by witches, but the witches could not cross the water, so he was safe (or so the story goes!).

It’s a picturesque spot, and has a nice view over the adjoining hotel gardens which are very impressive. Access is free and unrestricted.

Ayr, Scotland

"Ayr"

We went for a relaxing holiday... and that it was. We stayed in Saltcoats just north of Ayr at Sandylands Holiday Park.
Normally when we go away, we like to see most of the area as possible, sqeezing every attraction we know of into our days, leaving us feel knackered AFTER our holiday.
We enjoyed the location as it was on the beach and close to several lovley attractions.
