LOCH DOON
This Loch, situated in the Galloway Forest Park near Dalmellington, is not one of the prettiest in Scotland but its an area of Scientific interest due the rare Char fish which are present here and is also a major reservoir for the Ayrshire area. Its 5½ miles by 1½ miles. There is a ruined castle at the side of the Loch and you can still ocassionally - when the water level is lower - see the island in the middle of the loch where the castle was originally situated.
Free fishing for trout and char. There are plenty hiking trails in the area but its pretty remote countryside so be careful
