More about ABode Glasgow

fabulous hotel

by TripAdvisor Member lins22

i recently stayed at Abode Glasgow with a few friends, and everyone of us had a fantastc time. we were so well looked after by every single member of staff. We were checked in by david who was just fantastic, helped us to choose a great club and even helped us with our outfits! the bar in this hotel is awesome, so funky and fantastic cocktails, special thanks to malcolm. i would definitely reccomend this hotel for everyone, its just amazing.

Never again...

This was our first trip to Scotland and very much looking forward to our visit.

Really sorry that I picked the Abode, Glasgow.

Checked into hotel at 8.30am, informed rooms would be available from 2pm onwards. Finally aloud in at 3.30pm - no towels or toilet rolls, room looked into offices 20 ft away so had close curtains for privacy.

The feature old cage lift was very nice, but out of order throughout the whole of our stay, but there was no indication or notice that lift didn't work so very often people were stood for several minutes waiting before taking the stairs. Feel sorry for the less able bodied having to cart their luggage up several stairs without any offers of help from reception.

Don't both reading the plentiful 24 hour room service menu, - tried to order at 12.15am and the only thing left was a cheese and tomato sandwich.

Reception failed to follow their standard procedure of swiping a debit / credit card on check in, due to this at 1.30am we were accused of not been able to pay our bill, bullied and humiliated in our room, and in front of other guests. The simple explanation of a change of credit card number when card was cloned earlier in the year seem to fall on deaf ears.

Not happy with the limp excuses from the hotel manager I wrote to the Scottish Tourist Board and to the Managing Director of the Abode Group. The MD couldn't apologise more and assured us if we went to the Abode Exeter we would sample the real Abode way. Yes, we did go for 1 night and it indeed was very nice, staff were very helpful and friendly but feel that the Abode in Glasgow still leaves a lot to be desired and has a long way to go until it reaches the same standard.

However, I must mention how helpful and friendly everyone at Glasgow Ten Pin Bowling Centre were and the 'Two Fat Ladies' restaurant just up from the Abode hotel, its a real find. The head waitress clearly saw how upset i'd been. Upon leaving the restaurant she handed me some homemade chocolates wrapped in a napkin and hoped I'd come back to see just how special Glasgow can be.

I still waiting for the written apology from the Night Manager as promised by the MD, Abode Group.

Thats my candid piccy!

I stayed here on business for one night in July 2006. The room was on the ground floor and the bed was very comfortable. The view out of the window was appalling, all that rubbish must surely be a fire risk?? I took the candid photo which clearly shows an old vacuum cleaner and cardboard boxes piled up on the ventilation equipment.
In the basement cafe, the breakfast was brought out to you on a plate rather than a buffet "help yourself " style.
The staff were friendly, but as per other reviews, I think you can do better when in Glasgow. The Abode appears to be "over hyped" in my opinion.

Good but you pay for it.

Stayed here with my girlfriend. The room was nice and big and the bed was comfortable.

The location is great and a taxi to the airport the next day only cost £18.

The view from the room was absolutely awful; looking onto the flat roof of a building with air conditioners on it.

The bathroom door had no lock at all. Not even one operated by handle. The door was sticky and that helped keep the door shut.

Our room's door led directly out into the corridor and was not terribly well insulated. As a result we were woken up several times by people coming and going.

To be fair, the room was above average but I have to say that they are not quite there yet in terms of a premium service.

Don't stay here if you want a good night's sleep!

by TripAdvisor Member Darlogirl

Expected a luxurious nights stay and paid a bit more for it. When we got there, the booking had been lost. Stood waiting for 20 mins while it was sorted out.

There was a party on with loud bass, booming music and the room was directly above. Could not get to sleep until after 1am.

The staff told us they had other complaints and get this every Friday/Saturday as they have regular functions and that we should have been warned. We weren't.

The room was small, but otherwise comfortable - don't stay here if you want peace, quiet and a good nights sleep. It's like the disco is in your room.

The duty manager doesn't seem to be authorised to do much about your complaint. Stay somewhere else nicer for the money as the prices start at £125 without breakfast.

Disappointing .....

Looking forward to three days Xmas shopping in Glasgow. Chose the hotel for it's location. Booked a Desirable room .... but it didn't live up to it's name. There was absolutly no storage at all. 6 hangers (there were two of us) one tiny bedside drawer - too small to put anything in ... and that was it. We had to live out of our cases which was ridiculous in a room of that size. The bed was very comfy but the window was poorly (secondary) double glazed and water dripped between the window and the glazing all night. One of the curtains had shrunk from being constantly wet. The bathroom was very shappy - three huge chips in the bath and mouldy grouting. One tiny shelf in there and no tooth mug. We also had the problem with the keys not working. However, generally the staff were very attentive and helpful. The barman was fab, and the atmoshpere in the bar was great. The rooms were just not good enough. Couldn't get into dinner - would I stay again ... no.

Ambivalent about this one

From the website it looked as if we were in for a real treat. The front of house staff were friendly and relaxed and gave us an upgrade on our room! I was quite taken aback when I saw our upgrade...small room with a small bathroom and the window looked out onto a brick wall. It had charming decor nevertheless. This upgraded room is what I was expecting to be in originally for the price I was paying. However the staff are super friendly, hotel is immaculate and location is perfect. You just don't get alot for the price of the rooms. Also, you need to pay for your own parking accross the street.

Hotel ok, food fab!

by TripAdvisor Member LocalLass

Stayed in the standard room, which was absolutely tiny! Also woken at 6am by the radiator in the room getting an airlock and making the loudest knocking noise. Thankfully after about 30 mins it went off. The room itself was ok, although i think in need of a refresh. The more pricer rooms are probably better but they'd need to be for £150+ b&b! On the plus side the bar has great cocktails and you couldn't be more central in Glasgow. I have to say that Micheal Caines restaurant is fantastic! Pricey at about £50 a head but totally worth it, one of the nicest meals i've had in Glasgow.

Fab stay

by TripAdvisor Member nurse1898

Stayed here for a romantic weekend with husband and another couple. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the service was fantastic. Excellent roon, spacious and attention to detail fit for a boutique hotel.

Food at the hotel was amazing and of the quality you would expect from Michael Caines.

Situated in the heart of town, its ideal for shopping or late night drinking. Only downside was view from hotel window and the early morning bin-men
