Prestwick to Glasgow

by Koshka_ru

Hi!
We will be ariving to Prestwick airport very late at night (23.15) and need to get to Glasgow. Airport coaches goes untill 23.59, but considering that we must wait for our luggage there is a risk that we will miss this buss. Does anyone have an idea how we can solve this problem by the easieast and cheapest way? Or maybe there is a cheap hotel next to the airport (we are going further to Fort William next morning so we actually don´t really need to get to Glasgow itself).
Thanks in advance for all advices!
/Melissa

I think you may get the bus ok if you land on time..........they are usually timed to deal with incoming flights, and it's not a huge airport.

http://www.gpia.co.uk/AirportInfo/HowTo/bus.asp for booking tickets (which may well be a good idea).

But it is possible that your flight may be delayed...and if you don't need to go into Glasgow maybe staying in Prestwick itself would be more sensible.

looks very reasonable, and will be a cheap taxi ride from the airport. The same people have a hostel:

I think the bus will be timed to pick up late night arrivals and I should imagine your flight will be the only one to arrive at that hour. In the normal course of things, you will have ample time from flight arrival to bus time. However, it is unlikely that if the flight is late that the bus will wait, even if you have booked seats.

The B&B option is probably the safer, less stress on the nerves, easier on the fingernails!! The wee hoosie suggested by Leics seems fine. However, it is more like 10 minutes and 3 miles from the airport. Bear in mind that night rates will apply for the taxi and you must move swiftly in order to pick up one at the terminal. I suggest, if there are two of you, that one deals with the luggage, while the other proceeds out of the arrivals area and lines up for a taxi.

To get to Fort William you will have to go through Glasgow if you are using public transport.

If you do the B&B otpion, then the next day you can take a train from Prestwick (right by the airport, in fact there is a walkway from the terminal building to the train station) to Glasgow Central. Then it is a 10 minute walk from there to Glasgow Queen Street or else to the Buchanan Street bus station (behind QS station). You will get a discount fare on the train if you show your boarding pass.

We have now booked a B&B in Prestwick.

I hope you primed the B&B for a very late arrival?!

Travel Tips for Glasgow

Sculpture

by gordonilla

Like most European cities, Glasgow has a mix of old and new sculpture. Keep an eye out for this type of thing as it does add an extra dimension to your visit - highlighting the heritage and culture of the city along with what is thought to be in vogue with a modern touch too.

Glasgow Tip

by globetrott

this building was built by a rich carpet-merchant - obviously a good business - and all he explained to his architect was ' make something similar to Doghe's palace in Venice'...
well I prefer the one in Venice - but this one here is also worth seeing !

Glasgow Tigers Speedway

by fingersfin

Every Sunday at 4pm I enjoy two hours of the fastest family fun in Glasgow.

So what is speedway?

In a nutshell, its 500cc bikes, four riders, four laps, 0-60 in seconds and no brakes!!

The spectacle is something to behold and I join a thousand others each weekend to follow the Glasgow Tigers as they race against other teams from the length and breadth of Britain.

If you fancy something different to tell your mates on Monday morning then get along to the only live motorsport in Glasgow!

STIRLING CASTLE

by Hosell

This is another nice place to see and explore very close to Glasgow,in Stirling you can see its beautiful and full of history Stirling Castle.Take a look to my Scotland page to see more information about the castle.

A lot has changed in 4 years

by wee_lassie about Archaos

Archaos is no longer the nightclub it was a few years ago (and it wasn't that great then either!) I would avoid the place, the music is mostly cheesy euro trance/happy hardcore, and it is packed out with a regular crowd on a Friday and Saturday night, this clientel is very very young, very daft and boozed up (hence, a fight can flare up over nothing) it is not unusual to find the dreaded NED posing in here. Nasty. There are far better clubs in Glasgow, don't waste your holiday time in here. Girls: Less is more.
Guys: Ben Sherman, Burberry, Ralf Lauren
