Want to now what's on?

Buy a copy of "the list". It's a magazine that tells you every show that's on that week in Glasgow. All the clubs and thaters are listed there. You can buy a copy at almost every newspaper stand. And also at the Virgin Megastore, where you can buy concert tickets as well.
The Glasgow Fair Weekend.
by wee_lassie
During Mid-July Glasgow locals observe a long weekend holiday (sometimes up to 1 week) this year (2006) it ranged from 15th July - 18th July, during this time some local shops/resturants/council services close, also some bus services run on a limited timetable.
This holiday has become less and less recognised each year - but just be aware, Glaswgians like their holidays, so the airport might be a little busier than normal!
Old Firm
by mac-me
I know nothing about football and care even less but I couldn't have a credible page on Glasgow and not acknowledge that it does happen here!
As is the case many places football (soccer)is played mainly by boys and men - 5-aside, 7-aside, 11-aside in parks, on the street, on football pitches and in school playgrounds and gardens throughout the city summer and winter.
There are several 'big teams' with followings - Queen's Park, Partick Thistle, Celtic, Rangers. Of course the two big ones, teams that are known throughout the country, and maybe even throughout the world (yes? no?) are Celtic and Rangers - collectively nkown as 'The Old Firm'. Their followings are largely - but not exclusively - on sectarian grounds and old firm derbies are often more an excuse for bigotry and violence than anything to do with sport. A blue scarf or sweater if going to see Rangers play and a green scarf or sweater if going to see Celtic. Whatever else you do DO NOT wear the wrong colour to the wrong match or you could end up visiting the accident and emergency department of one of the city's hospitals!
A visit to see the first golf...
by Venturingnow
A visit to see the first golf course in the world is possible by visiting St. Andrews, which is located on the eastern side of Scotland, right on the water. There is a nice museum there, and it's great for golf fanatics.
Why not visit Inverness to the North? Home to the Loch Ness monster. It's a lake, and there's a road around it, and that's about it!
Stirling is another great place, but closer to Edinburgh. It has a great castle, and is definately worth a visit. See it's picture!
a great night out
by kiuvan about jumping jacks
On Wednesday nights this club is awesome, it fills up with students from all three of Glasgow's Universities (this is a lil rare). there is free entry, and drinks are cheap (from 1 pound, to 1.50 usually). cheesy competitions are held on the stage all night, where students from each uni compete to win points for their university. whatever you want
