effort made for solo travellers
by cooltomjapan
A couple of hours after booking in to the Globetrottrs i had been introduced by name ,country and even length of stay and forward destination to over 15 other independent travellers in the hostel. We ate bbq. food and drank theGlobetrotters iced tea, except it was not iced and tasted far better.
Individual travellers get put into smaller dorms with other solo travellers and i met more people in my first evening here then 5 days in Edinburgh.People see you with a map and stop to help
They look after strangers very well. friendlieness and spirit of now and fun
LOOK UP
by hevbell
Its amazing how much you don't see until you start looking UP! I have walked up and down Buchanan Street sooooo many times but usually been too obsessed with getting to Lush, or whatever shop was next on my list to, pay much attention to the buildings!
It was only on a recent trip that I noticed this huge peacock above the Princes Square shopping centre and then spent the rest of the day looking up at all the buildings and their fancy edificies that I had barely noticed before. Its no wonder Glasgow is a former "City of Architecture"!!
Packing List

Ok, listen carefully - TAKE AN UMBRELLA!!!!!!! Seriously, I think Glasgow might be the wettest place on Earth....well, that may be a slight exageration, but still.... No matter how sunny it looks in the morning, it could still be pouring down within a few hours - or even minutes, so an umbrella will come in very handy.
GREENBANK HOUSE
by hevbell
Greenbank House is a National Trust for Scotland property at Clarkston, on the outskirts of the city. Its best known for its garden but the house is also open to visitors at certain times. The gardens have longer opening hours and are accessable through the gift shop. Of course there is a small tearoom as well.
Oh and a field of cute Highland cows out front!
I got there by car. Its signposted from the road that leads from the A77 to East Kilbride. Once you turn off you have to keep on that road for around 1½ miles and its signposted up a road to your right.

Remember this
by HispanicYob about Sauchiehall Street
I read about this place during the witching hours. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. But again, I was with a local friend so that helped. Just remember, if you're in a jam and rely on the bus, the last one runs til about 12:30. Your best bet if you can find one is a taxi. There's lots of bars and "basement-type" pubs and clubs all along Sauchiehall. There's something going on in each.
