Nothing like its reputation. (still building page
"Wish we had longer here."
We only went to Glasgow to see The Rolling Stones at Hampden Park, so we made no plans for our stay here other than to book a hotel within walking distance of the stadium. For some reason Glasgow seems to have a bad reputation for drunkeness and violence, I feel this is very unjust as we saw no evidence of this at all. We never felt uncomfortable at any time during our stay and I sincerely hope to go back someday.
"Queens Park Area"
We stayed at the Best Western Ewington Hotel in the Queens Park area, a couple of miles from the city centre. We chose this place because it was within easy walking distance of Hampden Park (about 1 mile). Access to the city centre was easy, 3 minutes walk to Quens Park train station and then 2 stops to Glasgow Central Station. The park itself is lovely, we had a very nice stroll through it one afternoon when we came across a wonderful little distraction. The Nursery and Display House feature a fine collection of sub-tropical plants and many types of flowering and foliage plants. The nursery also houses a Zen garden, ponds, tropical fish, exotic birds and an excellent reptile house.
The hotel was the only disappointment during our visit. Best Western make it sound like some wonderfully grand historic building, in reallity it is more like a run down guesthouse struggling to reach a two star grading. My only recommendation for this hotel is "stay well clear".
