airport in Glasgow

by Glen30

Hi there,

I'm flying in from Amsterdam to Glasgow with British Airways. Which airport do I fly in to?

Can someone let me know if this hotel is centrally located. How far is the international airport from this hotel?
Acorn Hotel ... Overview
140 Elderslie Street, Glasgow, G3 7AW.
Tel : 0141 332 6556
Fax: 0141 332 4074

Thanks
Glen

If you put the postcode G3 7AW into www.streetmap.co.uk you will see exactly where the hotel is in relation to the city centre.

The hotel suggests a taxi is the easiest method of transport from the railway station where airport buses stop (or from the airport, if you prefer).

If your ticket says GLA then it is Glasgow Airport (not Glasgow Prestwick, PIK). Transport options from the airport here:

http://www.glasgowairport.com/portal/site/glasgow/menuitem.1f8c8b8c3a8f5fdc63f0ec109328c1a0/

If that page does not work, try:

http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/glasgow.html

The airport is around 10 miles from the city centre.

With British Airways you will fly into Glasgow Airport NOT Prestwick. From there you have various options:
you can take a taxi (expensive), try and share a taxi (half the expense), take a bus into central Glasgow (the buses leave from the island right outside of arrivals - ask for directions), take a bus to Paisley Gilmore Street station and take a train into Central Station, and walk, or take a taxi to Paisley Gilmore Street station and catch a train. The best option is to take the bus and it will stop at the Hilton, get off here and it is a short walk to your hotel. Suss it out on .streetmap, or mappy.co.uk

Travel Tips for Glasgow

Milngavie town centre

Walking around and exploring the quaint town centre and its various shops... not quite the same as the big shopping malls of Glasgow, but an interesting experience nonetheless... In the pic, under the clock-- my neice and nephew- Sara and Husain

Religion and Football

For Travellers from Spain, italy, South America etc. When in Glasgow, perhaps its best not to display any signs of your catholicism... blessing yourself or kissing your crucifix in public can, if you are unlucky lead to a bit of trouble if you happen upon the wrong type of "ned" or "mental case".

In the same context, if you have come from london and have bought a nice union jack bag with a picture of the queen, then it is best to leave that one at the hotel or the same thing could happen. Same if you have come via Ireland - dont sew that Tri-colour to your bag just yet.

Thankfully this kind of intolerance is becoming less common although there are still plenty hard core idiots still around.

The Scottish people are very friendly and you will love Glasgow!!!

I have been to this centre at Braehead a couple of times now. It has a whole range of activites perfect for a rainy day. As well as an indoor real snow slope [see my next tip], it has climbing walls, mini golf, bowling, cinema and a host of restaurants, bars and sports equipement shops. We played mini golf on our first visit and had dinner and I was there more recently to use the snow slope Equipement can be hired for all activities if it is needed

Glasgow from the uni tower

by cadja

If the deal is still on it's possible to walk up the big tower of Glasgow University every Friday during summer season, at 2pm. It's free, but you need to collect your ticket at the information desk in the Main building of the University because the number is limited. It's a great opportunity to see Glasgows west, and a bit of the south, end from above.
