Excellent service!

I recently stayed at the Hilton Glasgow for a short business trip.
From the moment I checked in, staff were friendly and helpful.
The lobby is impressive, with a range of restaurants, and a comfortable bar. The hotel also has fitness and leisure facilities.
I stayed in a very large room on the 10th floor. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room was well equipped with desk, two telephones, couch, double wardrobe with mirrors, drawer space, tv.
The bathroom was clean and well designed.
The only thing that lets this hotel down is its location. From my room, I had views of the M8 (motorway), and several other dual carriageway roads. I could also see ugly tower blocks and what I can guess were large tranches of social housing.
However, the hotel feels safe, and I walked to and from the city centre with no problems, in about 15 minutes.
I would recommend this hotel for business travel, but there are other more centrally located hotels better suited to leisure.
Some good points
by A TripAdvisor Member
This is a large hotel with some very good points such as the calm and welcoming lobby area and very good service. However being a Scot I was disappointed that the Glasgow Hilton did not reach 5* standards I expected in this vibrant city. The decor is jaded and there was a stale smell in my room only alleviated by the a/c. The breakfast room is a cluttered brown echo of an American city bar from the eighties and the food, frankly, poor quality. Over salty bacon, lard-flavoured black pudding ... the scrambled eggs were excellent though! I have received a letter of apology after passing on my comments. I think the Glasgow Hilton's reputation demands a freshen up.
Nice Hotel, Good Service, ok location
by TripAdvisor Member c124
The Glasgow Hilton is one of the nicer Hiltons in the UK and if booked under a special rate, offers great value. Rooms are modern, quiet and clean, with firm and comfortable beds. The hotel has two restaurants which offer a good menu, on busy nights these fill quickly so if you plan to eat at one of these it pays to book ahead. The buffet breakfast is well stocked with the standard fare and staff are reasonably attentive. Check in staff are friendly and efficient.
In terms of location, the hotel is at the western end of the city centre and about a 10-15 walk to Central Train Station and the central shopping area of Buchanan Street Mall. The area immediately around the hotel is mainly a business district, so is very quiet after hours and has virtually no restaurants or shops around.
Overall a very good Hotel, and good value for money.
Great Place to Stay

Recently stayed at the Hilton and loved every minute of it. The rooms were a good size, staff were friendly and helpful. Location is not the greatest but not bad if you don't mind a 20 minute walk to most ameneties.
Plenty of restaurants within the hotel to choose from. I had room service a couple of times and was impressed with the meal and service. Though close to the motorway and on the fifth floor, was not once bothered with the noise of traffic. Have stayed in many a hotel in Glasgow, but would definitely rate this number one.

hotel in Glasgow
by FrodovonTrapp
Hi all,
We are looking for a modern-style hotel in the centre of Glasgow. Can anyone recommend us something.
Breakfast is very important for us, and so the hotel should be providing a full breakfast.
Thanks and happy 2005.

Glasgow has umpteen hotels so it's difficult to know where to begin. Try www.city-visitor.com/glasgow/hotels.htm or merely Google "glasgow hotels". Apart from the Hilton, Marriott, Travelodge, Travel Inn, Ramada Inn chains, there's also Bewley's and Lang's. Also the SAS Radisson. All city centre.

I was staying at the Radisson SAS too on my last visit to Glasgow (October 2004) and loved it. The breakfast buffet is very good, there is also a selection of excellent Spanish cheese. Also the location is very good.
On my previous visit, in March, I stayed at Lang's. It is very nice and modern, but I think the rooms are a bit smaller than at the Radisson. The location is great.
