swim and bike

by maz100

I would like to take an early morning swim in a public swimming bath not far from the National Express Coach station, strathclyde. Can you give me details of where and how to get there? Also how does a person get from Glasgow to Craigluscar,Bike Trail,Dunfermline, Fife, by public transport?

You can take a train to Dunfermline via Edinburgh Waverley from Queen Street Station. This is just striaght down Buchannan Street (aiming "through" the Royal Concert Hall) from the Buchanan St. bus station.

For a swim - my pool & gynm is very near here but like the rest I can think of are membership or affiliated to a hotel. Not much population in the very centre to sustain public baths. Maybe the Gorbals is the nearest on Ballater street;

which is quite a cut & paste!

Woodside baths are between Cowcaddens and St George`s Cross subway stations. Just like the Gorbals baths they are run by the city council. Not too far from the city centre by taxi.

Travel Tips for Glasgow

Walk around and admire the architecture. Even if you're not Mr. Brady, you have to admire the varied architecture throughout this city. Right next to a dark, intricately decorated gothic church, there will be an ultramodern glass building. Pirty cool!

Partick Thistle Queens Park

by chichino1

There are 4 football stadiums in the city serving the four football teams and as it is supposed to be a game ,i have never answered the question''What team do you support?'' as the last thing they are asking about is football......
Best not to get into that conversation.
I have found directing conversations to stadiums ,Queens Park's Hampden stadium being the biggest and the Scots National Stadium the best is a good sidestep that no one can disagree with ;a good opener.
It is a fun city, but this{football} is a boring conversation which at best will win you a friend who cant see past this topic or a candid apraisal of why your ''team'' is wrong.

Glengoyne Whisky Distillery tour/tasting

by stevieUK

Pleasant 40mins or so bus trip from the centre of Glasgow. Probably quicker than the trip to Auchentoshan (technically the closest distillery but the bus stops everywhere). Glengoyne is more picturesque than Auchentoshan, being at the edge of the Campsie fells and with a glen at the back containing a pond and waterfall. That plus the nice little shop make it the better option if you just choose the one - those personally I'd get both in if you can. Basic tour with dram is about a fiver. Video at the start and the walkaround was kept light and interesting. We opted for the tasting tour option (no one else went for this) which added in the posh glasses and armchairs of the club room as you sampled a few older drams plus getting to see the blending room (worth the moeny I felt). In short an attractive distillery a short bus ride from Glagow which puts on a good show with some good whiskies included to boot.

Castle Campbell

by margaretvn

Get out and visit Castle Campbell in Dollar. This castle is traditionally known as the "Castle of Doom" and it is beautifully sited at the head of the Dollar Glen.
The oldest part of the castle is a well-preserved 15th century tower around which other buildings were built, these include an unusual loggia. The views from the ruined castle are wonderful, but do be very careful the steps up are twisty and very steep.
There is a small garden around the castle and the flowers are lovely. Do take a walk in the valley behind the castle as well as you get lovely views of the castle from higher up.
There is a walk downhill to the castle from the top small car park area. There are also lower and middle car parking areas with longer walks to the castle. The castle is closed on Thursday afternoons and on Fridays and Sunday mornings in winter.

Found at the head of Dollar Glen. It is 10 miles west of Stirling on the A91

student nitelife

by Jon_Boy about Nice n' Sleazy

If you like rock and alternative music this can be a bit of an eye opener at times but well worth a look!
Also as it's surrounded by such a variety of bars in the same street if Sleazy's doesnt suit your taste you'll be spoiled for choice!

njoy! If you dress smart you will be out of place.

Typical student attire fits in well ( is there typical student attire?) ( metallica t-shirt and ripped jeans ... your well dressed :o) ) but I suggest decent jeans, shoes and casual shirt so that you can get in to bars elsewhere if required.
