Very good value for money
by TripAdvisor Member quixotic_spider
This hotel is excellent value for money. The rooms are clean and large, although basic.
I did not eat at the hotel as the city centre is within walking distance so cannot comment on the restaurant. The bar staff and reception staff are very friendly and helpful.
Good value on a budget
by TripAdvisor Member William50
This hotel is conveniently located for shopping in Glasgow City Centre. Despite this, although there is some noise penetration from the street, my room on the 6th floor was reasonably quiet. It was also clean, comfortable, and a decent size.
The hotel has a pleasant restaurant which overlooks the grounds of a nearby churchyard. I found both food and service problem-free.
I would recommend this hotel if you want a central hotel but are on a budget. I would say it is considerably better than the Travel Inn at Glasgow Charing Cross.
Good location
by TripAdvisor Member sp1982
I thought the hotel was in a great location as only a few minutes away from the shops, bars & restaurants.
The room we had was quite spacious and the cleaner always did a good job every day although you needed the do not disturb sign as they came quite early each day. The only fault with the room was that it was on the road and you could hear all the traffic plus on a night time the noise from the bar up the road and when it was closing time at 3am.
Breakfast was buffett and had a great choice but felt it was a bit pricy when you get could something cheaper down the road. Only used the bar once and the staff seemed friendly and knowledgable when we asked about places to eat in Glasgow.
If I went back to Glasgow then id stay here again.
Good location, room was great, but food at restaurant was terrible! -
by TripAdvisor Member speedbumpbutterfly
We stayed for one night at this hotel as my partner had to sit some professional exams, so we wanted a stress free place to stay. The room was fine as was the location, our only problem was the food and service at the hotels restaurant - it was terrible!!!!
Firstly my boyfriend wanted an orange juice with lemonade - it took both of us 5 minutes to explain to the waitress what this drink was - as she couldn't udnerstand english - and in the end sh e brought a fanta orange. I ordered a pizza and they took ages to bring it, only to be told that the chef had burnt it and was making another one, so we waited longer, eventually my pizza came along with lots and lots of flour!!!! - all over the plate, over the pizza, underneath the pizza - the topping was cooked and that was it - couldn't eat it. Waitresses weren't all that great - other tables had problems, one guy who was on his own had waited for ages for his starter only to be told by the waitress that he wouldn't be having one because the chef had forgotten to cook it and was already cooking his main meal. They had also run out of fish and chips, bangers and mash, and osme other things. When we came to pay for the meal - the waitress told us that she had taken the pizza off the bill - HOW THOUGHTFULL!!! and gave a lame apology to say they were having a bad evening - that should not have been our problem. AVOID THE RESTAURANT IF YOU CAN HELP IT!!!! My boyfriend by the way ordered lasagne - and it was just l asagne with 2 pieces of garlic bread - very bland - nothing to speak of. Food was expensive for what you got!
Great location, lovely hotel
by TripAdvisor Member GalwayGal
We stayed at this hotel the past weekend and really enjoyed it. The location to Buchannon St is fantastic and wonderful for a weekend of shopping or browsing around. We didn't eat at the hotel as we thought the breakfast was very expensive when compared to other eateries nearby. The hotel bar was very nice and comfortable at the end of a busy day for a night cap.
I would really recommend this hotel and if I get the chance to return to Glasgow and I hope to because it is great for shopping, I will definitely stay here.
Central, convenient, cheap and quiet
by TripAdvisor Member JC_Traveller
We spent a Friday night here after a gig at the Barrowlands. The hotel is pretty close (10-15 mins walk) but in a nicer part of town. It's also very close to the shopping areas (Buchannan st & Argyll st) & plenty of bars/restaurants.
You get a good deal on the NCP car park which is right across the road from the hotel (along with 2 handy RBS cashpoints). It's £7 for 24hrs parking if you get your ticket stamped at the hotel.
The room was fine, had all the usual basics like TV, hairdryer, tea/coffee. We got a triple room as a double so it was spacious.
We were on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel & there was very little noise from the road outside & we either had very quiet neighbours or the walls between rooms are well soundproofed.
Only complaint was that the bathroom was pretty tatty & could do with a refurb.
Look no further in Glasgow!!

A GREAT PLACE TO STAY -
Look no further for reasonable, clean and friendly accomodation in Glasgow!! Having stayed in other Glasgow hotels that were a great deal more expensive - this place beats them all hands down! Stayed for 3 nights while visiting my son and doing Xmas shopping - the location could not be better - excellent bars and restaurants and shops all within walking distance.
Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly - room was a good size and very clean. Had read other reviews that stated breakfast was too expensive - at £7.50 for as much as you can eat - I would disagree with this completely!
Would use this hotel again and recommend to others
Good Stuff

Stayed here during January after watching a Celtic game. No complaints at all.
Checking in was quick and easy (paid £60 for a saturday night) for a double room and the staff were very helpful. Also free tea, coffee and mineral water is available at reception, which is always handy if you've made a long trip.
Beds were very comfortable and the room was generally very pleasant. Shower was nice and powerful and the usual tea/coffee facilties were all in order.
Its in a very good spot if you want to shop and travel around the centre of Glasgow. Its also in good walking distance to nearby restaurants, bars and clubs (must emphasise it is still quiet in the hotel at night though).
All in all, very pleased.
just th job

Stayed in this hotel on the 17th feb for 1 night. Lads w'end away to watch football. Perfect location. 5mins walk to everything bars, etc. Quiet enough when you wanted it to be except for fire alarm going off at 4am. ( not nice ). Restaurant closed for refurbishment.
Rooms just what you want & only 58quid. All in all just what you want
Room 223 - pack your earplugs
by TripAdvisor Member highlandbride
Stayed here for two nights last week in room 223. OK room, functional and a bit worn at the edges, but the worst feature was being adjacent to one of a series of incessant fire doors that slammed shut all night long. Also, the walls at this location are a bit on the thin side - we got to listen to a bunch of drunks in an adjacent room party into the night. Location a few blocks off the square and the parking garage was right across the street which was convenient to walk, but not for hauling luggage. We'd stay here again with earplugs only. To teh management - please get automatic eye door openers for those many sets of fire doors - hauling luggage through the halls is a real hassle otherwise.
Also restaurant is under renovation and the place reeked of wet paint during our stay.

3 Day Visit to Scotland - any suggestions?
by stefanfarr8
Dear all,
thanks a lot. This is my plan for the holiday in Scotland.
Day 1 - leave Glasgow and visit loch lomond, luss, inveraray (castle) and oban - we are thinking of sleeping in Oban (any accomodation suggestions are welcome)
Day 2 - Oban - Glencoe, Piltochry, Stirling and return to Glasgow
Day 3 - Visit Edinburgh
Do you think this is a good way to plan the holiday? Do you think we have enough time? Can you recommend any particular distillery we should visit? We were thinking of going to Edradour distillery.
Thanks again
Stefan

Your itinerary sounds OK.
Some tips along the way:
day 2:
Dunstaffnage Castle, just north of Oban
Try to make a detour on your way to Glencoe through the lovely Glen Orchy
happy travels

Hi,
I think you have the right amount of traveling for 3 days.
I stayed at http://www.alltavona.co.uk/ in Oban a few years ago and it was good.
Sorry no idea on the distillery.
If you are staying in Glasgow and want to visit Edinburgh I would suggest not driving as driving and parking in Edinburgh can be difficult. There is a good train service from Glasgow to Edinburgh 50 mins with 2 or 4 trains an hour depending on the time of day.
Cheers
Doug

If you are driving from Glasgow to Loch Lomond, you could visit the Glengoyne distillery, which is only a few miles from Glasgow. It is on a slightly longer, but far more scenic route to Loch Lomond. From the centre of Glasgow, most people head along Great Western Road towards Dumbarton, then to Loch Lomond. To go via the Glengoyne distillery, you would take a route which runs north of the main one. It's also easily accessible by car from Glasgow aiport, if you're flying in.

Here is my VT Tip page on Edradour. It is absolutely gorgeous.

My suggestion would be to do about half of what you have planned. It takes longer than you think to drive places in Scotland and the landscape is so beautiful you want to stop for photos often.
Whatever your choices, have a good time. Scotland is stunning.
