Spending the Summer in Glasgow

by jaydigity

Myself and a couple of friends are thinking of working for the summer in Britain. There're a few cities we are considering going to and to help us narrow our (very long) list I was just wondering if anyone would like to offer some input as to whether or not Liverpool would be a good choice for the summer.
We'd be looking for somewhere where
- Job availibility won't be a problem
- A decent nightlife for 20 year olds
- Cheap cost of living, or at least, not expensive
- There's a nice amount of touristy things to do.

Really, REALLY appreciate feedback!

Hi

I can't really say anything about Liverpool but I can comment on Glasgow. Glasgow is great City to spend the summer. There are a lot of Employment Agencies in the City that can help you obtain work, flat rentals can be fairly in-expensive, lots to see and do - best nightlife, second in Europe for shopping. You can travel to many places from Glasgow. If you do decide to go further south, Manchester is only 3 hours away as well as Liverpool.

Have a great summer - I don't think you will be disappointed anywhere you go.

Yes you've listed this under Glasgow not Liverpool. Both are great cities these days . As Liverpool is capital of culture this year - www.liverpool08.com has the details i would just opt for there over Scotland's largest city.

Glasgow is indeed a nice place...however, it may be difficult to pinpoint the exact weekend in which summer occurs.

You may be able to stay in student accommodation that has been vacated for the summer. I`m sure that you can get work in a bar or coffee place. The other two things are on tap.
I`ve noticed Irish people getting jobs in O`Briens, Primark and Dunnes to start off. Maybe you can do that from home.
Summer? It was sunny this morning, in between the snow and hail showers! :-)

Travel Tips for Glasgow

Take the tour of Celtic Park. ...

by JFKRampRat

Take the tour of Celtic Park. If you are any kind of a soccer fan you will love it. You see the history of Celtic football and also go onto field level. CELTICS!! We went to a Celtic-Aberdeen match at Celtic park. It was the best experince ever..60,000 people cheering and singing at a soccer match. The Celts won 3-2, so it made my day and trip.

The Art Galleries and Museum...

by ScotTom

The Art Galleries and Museum at Kelvingrove and opposite, The Transport Museum should be a MUST on anybody's list of places to visit.
The Burrell Collection in Pollock Park is another not to be missed Museum.
There are many other smaller museums and galleries within the city and surrounding area.

This 8/9 times daily cruise is a historical gem regarding how the river built the city and the city built the river.Braehead is an amazing complex in itself but getting there on this smooth yaght is a real mustdo if you want to see how Glasgow becane sooo great.John Browns shipyards birthplace of the Queens and many other shipyards have all their history detailed as well as the new exhibitionansd conference centres which are an interesting walk about in themselves.

Crossraguel Abbey.

by margaretvn

This abbey was founded by the Earl of Carrick in the early 13th century and was much rebuilt in the following three centuries. The remains include the church, cloister, chapter house, and a lot of the domestic premises. mind your head when climbing the tower - the views are worth the effort.
Open in the summer only.

Rock on

by tvor about The Garage

This is a nice sized venue on Sauchihall Street that features a variety of live acts from rock to kick ass music that isn't for the faint of heart. Find it by locating the big truck stuck on the front of the building (see photo). Can be a bit younger university age crowd. Not canned dance music as a rule. I saw a punk band live there but i think they have a variety of acts. none
