Charming but really lacks privacy for the guests
I read a few raving reviews about "The Flower House" and I couldn't help being disappointed at my one night stay this February.
The bedroom we were given, situated at the garden floor, was quite dark and claustrophobic.
In this type of property the private garden at the back is at a lower level than the street at the front, hence the garden floor is really the basement.
The room had no private facilities, only one (small) bathroom was to be shared by (I think) three rooms downstairs. This is not well explained in the website and I think is really unacceptable in any B&B of a decent standard. Bring a dressing gown with you.
The room had a paper thin glass door leading into the hall (luckily with curtains!) so the acustic insulation was very poor. I could hear the the phone ringing upstairs first thing in the morning as if it was next to my bed.
In addition the owners use a kitchen in the basement to prepare a somewhat simple breakfast that is served in your room. While they clearly tried their best not to make much noise, I was woken up around 7:30 by the preparations. There it went my long lie in.
Bring ear plugs as well, if all 4 rooms are occupied, the activity in the kitchen is likely to be non-stop from early morning.
All in all a disappointing stay, I would not recommend it unless you're really mad for that kind of Victorian doll house decor, have a very deep sleep and don't mind queing for the toilet.
Probably much better experience if you manage to get the big bedroom upstairs,
that has (I think) its own bathroom, is away from the kitchen and has a decent door.
Unique Quality: Great care in decorating and furnishing what is a nice Victorian townhouse, particularly the lounge and the main guest bedroom on the ground floor.
Directions: A quite mixed area, St. Vincent Crescent is a very nice Victorian crescent sandwiched between a Warehouse district at the front and a somewhat grotty neighbourhood at the back.
