B&B in Glasgow?
Hi! I'll be attending a conference at the SECC in Glasgow in August. Can anyone recommend a B&B or small hotel near the SECC. I'm looking for something relatively inexpensive, but comfortable.
Thanks!
Debi
Re: B&B in Glasgow?
Hi Debi
I don't know what SECC means, but we stayed at Glasgow Argus Hotel, 970 Sauchiehall Street. It was not expensive, comfortable with a nice breakfast. It's about 10 minutes walk through Kelvingrove park to the university of Glasgow
Re: B&B in Glasgow?
Hi There!
Welcome to Glasgow (when you get here)
Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre is located at the "lower end" of Glasgow's town centre. I think it'd be ideal for you to look at some of the b&b's in the Sauchiehall Street area, as recommend in the previous post. The Sandyford Hotel looks welcoming and modern www.sandyfordhotel.com, (though I haven't been in it, I know people who have and they were happy with it), but I think you should watch where you stay, as some of the b&b's are not all they seem. Their rates are fair, and you are located in an excellent part of the City. I'm sure other's will help on board also. Other than that, it's only the "big chain hotels" that are located around the SECC, and their prices can be extotionate.
Good luck, and have a gr8 stay in Glasgow
Best wishes
L4H :-)
Can't remember hotel name on Sauchiehall Street
Hi--
A week ago I was walking towards the west end on Sauchiehall Street. Not too far from the City Center (perhaps a third of the way towards the university) I passed a hotel and jotted its name down for future reference. Now I can't find the note or remember its name. It was on the north side of the street, and its dominant exterior color scheme was a purplish blue. The lobby looked very modern and hip, perhaps like it had been remodeled recently. It seems like maybe it was one of the first hotels I passed as I headed west, and it was on (or very near to) a street corner as opposed to the middle of the block. If anyone has any idea what hotel I might be talking about, I would love to know. Thanks.
Re: Can't remember hotel name on Sauchiehall Street
It could possibly be Bewley's Hotel
Re: Re: Can't remember hotel name on Sauchiehall Street
As I e-mailed to Hawkshead, thanks for trying to help, but it's not Bewley's. This was a small hotel in an older building.
Re: Can't remember hotel name on Sauchiehall Street
Hi,
I hope this isn't arriving too late. The name of the hotel is the Sandyford Hotel - from memory I think the telephone number is 0141 353 0000.
Happy hotelling!
