Hi I will be arriving on the London to Glasgow Central Station. Can anyone tell me how I can get from Glasgow Central Station to Riddrie or from nearby. Alternatively I may fly into Glasgow International Airport - how would I get to Riddrie from there.
Thanks
Best is to plan your journey using the Journey Planner on:
http://www.travelinescotland.com
you can use the exact location for your arrival.
According to Traveline, bus 38 goes to Riddrie from Glasgow. Timetables here:
http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/scotland/swscot/timetables/index.php?operator=10&page=1&redirect=no
(38 is on page 4).
From the airport, you can take bus 500 0r 747 into the city, and then catch the 38. Info on and links for airport bus services here:

You will need to catch the 38 bus from Waterloo Street. Go out of the main entrance of Central Station onto Gordon Street and turn to your left The first street you come to is Hope Street, the next one is Waterloo Street. You should see the bus stop just below the intersection Gordon Street/Waterloo Street. The bus is number 38, route showing on the front will be Crookfur, Easterhouse or Garthamlock.
From Glasgow Airport, I would take the bus into Glasgow and get off at the Central Station stop. If you miss that, go on to the Buchanan Street Bus Station where the bus terminates. Then walk to Cathedral Street and pick up the 38 there.
Or you could take a bus, or a short taxi ride, to Paisley Gilmore Street Station, take the train into Glasgow Central....
I think one needs to be careful regarding recommending the 38 bus because Riddrie has more than one bus leading to the neighbourhood from the centre and the Travel Planner I gave above does allow a more exact route plan to be plotted.
Yes, but the 38 goes to the centre of Riddrie i.e. the library and so will go through the western part at least. Not an area I would particularly want to visit anyway!! The OP didn't specify any particular part of Riddrie.
Glaswegians are well known for their friendliness and I certainly found this to be the case. While wandering around the Necropolis one of the guys cutting the grass stopped to chat and gave me loads of advice [and directions!] on where I should go while I was there and then was telling me all about his nephew who was working in my home town!
If you are visiting at the beginning of May this is around the only time when you should pack sun tan lotion - this is when everyone is sitting exams and you can guarantee the weather will be glorious :-)
Alternatively please bring warm clothes and anything to guard against the rain!
This page is only marginally about Glasgow and only because it is the starting point for the west highland way trek to Fort William on the West Coast.
.
this was a road built by the English general Wade in his campaign to defeat Scotland, was then used as a cattle drovers route to the markets of Glasgow and then re-opened as a walking, adventure trail.
My wife and her companion walked 2/3 of the way before
giving up through injury.
This trail winds through some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland and is also the only way to reach all of the east coast of Loch Lomond.
There are hotels and camp sites at intervals along the way and any information on this walk can be obtained from the website, http://www.west-highland-way.co.uk---------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------
