Athens to Glasgow

by janetanne

I would like to know which airlines are the best and most reliable, as well as economical, for booking on-line tickets to Glasgow from Athens, Greece. Are there possibly any direct flights? My friend here in Athens wants to go to Glasgow on the 23rd October and return to Athens on the 30-31st October.

Does anyone possibly know of any good discount or package deals at this time of the year?

Thank you for your help in advance. Janet in Athens

We have done it the other way round i.e. Glasgow to Athens and return. There used to be a direct flight (Air Scotland) but no more. You either have to go through London or Amsterdam. If you google "glasgow to athens" you should get a whole list of sites and then you can see what is available from Athens to Glasgow on the sites listed. I see KLM has a return flight of £209 - that's via Schipol. I would say that Schipol is by far the easier connection. However, if you fly BA, then it is all the same terminal.... swings and roundabouts!!

www.kayak.co.uk suggests that KLM has the lowest price for the dates you suggest, at £ 244. British Airways is £ 273. It is school half-term holiday here next week (in Suffolk, anyway), so that might affect the prices.

Look at Easyjet too, in case you have problems with the others suggested. They fly direct from Athens to either Luton or Gatwick. Luton would probably be easiest for the onward train journey to Edinburgh. Flight for your dates are less than 300 euro in total (including baggage fee...would have been much cheaper if you'd booked earlier). Return train fare to Edinburgh around 78GBP (2 x singles)

The museums are extremely good and FREE, there are plenty of them around. If you like there is a tour bus which takes you round them all and you can hop on and off as you wish. Although this cost £7 for adults and £3 for kids. For more info go here scotguide.com/glasgowtour

Kirkintilloch, The Canal Capital of Scotland

by b4ugogo

Kirkintilloch or Kirkie as it's know by the locals is a wee town 7 miles North east of Glasgow situated in East Dumbartonshire.
Kirky was home to the famous Red telephone boxes which were produce in the Kirky Iron Foundry.

It has a population of just over 20,000 and is the Canal Capital of Scotland, though locals often joke it is ''the Charity shop Capital of Scotland'' due to how many Charity shops can be found on the high street.

Blackness Castle

by margaretvn

This was built in the 14h century and then strengthened as an artillery fortress in the 16th century. In the 1870s it became an ammunition depot before being restored in the 1920s. It was used as the setting for the film Ivanhoe.

I love the views over the Firth of Forth - and it has family memories also as my aunt made the cake that was cut at the opening of the road bridge.

Closed on Thursday afternoons and Fridays in winter.
Tel: 01506 834807
4 miles north of Linlithgow on the shore of the Firth of Forth off the A904 - with lovely views of both bridges

Glasgow is a top city for...

by lovelylass

Glasgow is a top city for clubbing it in, with clubs to suit everyone. Theres the usual Student Unions offering drink for pennies, chance to eye up the uni talent. For those who are not student there other clubs depending on your music interest. If your a dance music kinda person there such clubs as the Arches, The Tunnel, Archaos. The are gay clubs to being the Polo Lounge, Bennets. If your like me and like the usual chart music and a little bit of cheesy pop then Fury Murrays and my favourite the Garage are the place to be.

The Garage is the place to go its studenty and play music for everyone from your Abba to your Robbie to your Stones Rose and the lastest chart and dance tunes. The Garage dress code depends on which night you go Fridays and Saturdays i would say are more of a dressier night you know smart but casual. Any other night is whatever you feel comfortable.
