Gem of a hotel

Had a really enjoyable stay at the Loch Fyne Hotel.
Staff cannot do enough for the guests. Food was excellent.
Furnishings in rooms could be updated but otherwise no complaints.
Would recommend to anyone.

Lovely relaxing break

by A TripAdvisor Member

My boyfriend and I visited the Loch Fyne Hotel in January of this year and are planning to return in the summer. Overlooking the loch, it is set in a lovely area ideal for a quiet, relaxing break. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the food was excellent! The best part for us was the swimming pool and sauna, great for just chilling out. Booked through easybreaks we paid £65 each for 2 nights DBB which we thought was fantastic value but i think the normal prices you would pay if you book through the hotel are too much. Ideal for couples

fabulous hotel

by TripAdvisor Member d12258

We have just returned from the Loch Fyne Hotel and we had a fabulous stay. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were lovely, warm and clean (with their own adjustable heating system and a power shower in the bathroom!) The food was delicious and there was a marvellous choice for breakfast. The dinner menu was very expensive (£15-20 main meal price!), so we didn't stay for dinner! I would highly recommend the George Hotel in the village, though as the food was of an excellent standard with the main meals priced at around £6-10 and the ambience more of a pub-meal feel than restaurant. The kids loved the leisure facilities - great pool (though there is NO shallow end - all 4ft, so we had to watch my youngest like a hawk, but the hotel had available arm bands, floats, balls etc to play with) Sauna and steam room all working and lovely and a hot tub that we didn't use, but was available if you wanted to brave the winter weather to get to it outside! An improvement that could be made was to the shower and toilet facilities in the leisure club as the shower only ran cold and the toilets were in need of updating!, but the changing rooms, though small, were clean and the towels we lent were thick and luxuriously warm. All in all very good value for money and I would say well deserved a 3 star - if you go expecting high four star standards, you would be disappointed as there is a little bit of re-decoration that could be done, but on the whole a very good value for money hotel in a stunning setting opposite the loch and we all had a lovely time - we will definately return!

Simply the worst!

The Loch Fyne Hotel used to be a fairly small, comfortable cosy family-run hotel with a warm welcome and a great breakfast where I stayed happily on two occasions. Be warned - it has changed beyond all recognition and not for the better. Here are a few observations...

- Hideous bogus "Scottish" interior decoration, complete with fake portraits, fake stonework and fake swords - all tacky in the extreme.

- Bloodstain on the door of the first room I checked into.

- For some unknown reason I was initially allocated a room fully equipped for the disabled - although I am not disabled - and had to complain in order to be moved to a double room with standard fittings.

- The new room had a paper thin internal service door dividing it from the adjoining room and the noise was appalling.

- The entire floor of my newly-allocated room had a strange and indefinable musty smell which caught in the back of the throat.

- There was no radiator, only an electric storage heater and the controls didn't seem to work.

- The bed was hideously uncomfortable with its springs sticking into you as soon as you climbed between the sheets.

- Truly disgusting food, dressed up as haute cuisine. A repulsive dinner, followed by a stomach churning breakfast - all served by foreign staff at breakneck speed in a vile, gloomy dining room bursting with its tattooed, loud-mouthed, vulgar clientele.

I have never been so glad to leave a hotel in my entire life, will never return and would strongly advise anyone thinking of staying there to avoid this over-priced, pretentious dump like the plague.

Hotel by the loch

by TripAdvisor Member BalvennieBob

Excellent hotel, as with previous reviews sheets on bed instead of duvet but really minor problem. Side view from bedroom took away a little of the splendour of the scene but warm and comfortable.

Food excellent and served speedily with courtesey from the waiting staff.

Drinks prices a little steep compared to other hotels in the village.

Staff found to be helpful and polite.

Local attractions - found the jail to be well worth the visit and the admission price discounted as resident at the hotel.

Would definately return but lookout for the discounted prices as £125 a night for a double room is ott.

We paid £192 for two people for two nights B & B with table d'hote dinner and reckon that was decent value for what was served up.

great hotel!

we have just returned from a three night dbb stay at this hotel and loved it!you could not possibly have any complaints from the staff right through to the lesuire facilities this hotel offers you the chance to unwind and be spoiled whilst overlooking some fantastic scenery.we found the food to be superb with a different menu each night served by friendly staff who could not do enough for you.all in all a great easter break well worth the £293 we paid for it!enjoy

A most scenic location

by TripAdvisor Member Canberra_Traveller

We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel just a 7 minute walk from the centre of town.
The hotel is warm and newly decorated. We were given the last remaining room, a discounted suite overlooking the water. The room was beautifully decorated and was sold to us for 100 pounds with breakfast for 2. The view from the window seat was lovely and we had a plasma TV and a Victorian bath. The cheaper rooms were also well decorated but smaller and without the views.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was good and served in a light, bright room with tartan carpets. There was ample free parking. A voucher from reception gives you 20% discount at the goal and Inveraray Castle which is very worthwhile.

I would definitely consider returning to this hotel for a longer stay and would take the dinner, bed and breakfast option.

ok but lots of little problems

by TripAdvisor Member addicted-traveller

we got a good price for this hotel through active holidays but would not pay the rack rate which is 125 pounds far too expensive. The room was ok average fair. Leisure facitilies spot on, a lovely pool and hot tub, the sauna was also very good alas the steam room was not working. it was the little things that bugged us. Stale bread at the evening meal, water with no ice and coffee which was luke warm, the meal itself was good but the little things mar this hotel and they need to sort them out. The lounge is lovely big leather settees were really comfy but the other public area such as the stairs and landings look shabby and need some work. as I say for 190 pound for 3 nights, it was good value but if it had cost 375 pounds I would have been very disappointed. THE one major disappointment was breakfast, a rasher of back bacon, a sausage half a slice of fried bread half a tomato...you get the picture or there was the choice of kippers... well a kipper actually. So uninspired, no omelet, fresh fish or cold meats just a few cereals, fruit juice and then the hot choice. Even bed and breakfasts can offer more than this. To add insult the last day we went for breakfast at 9.55 to be told it had finished at 9.30. Now I understand in city hotels which cater on a Monday with businessmen that breakfast does finish earlier but this is a holiday resort and to have to be at breakfast just after nine seems very early but as the breakfast was so uninspiring it wasnt such a great loss. Yes visit but only for the right price, this is a hotel that has pretentions to be a * above what it is and seems to be pricing itself at 4/5 star rates.

"Loch Fyne Hotel"

One hour from Glasgow, the Loch Fyne Hotel overlooks the loch of the same name and is at the edge of Inveraray town.Reasonably priced and with good food, bar, swimming pool, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna, this is an ideal base to explore the Western Highlands.

"Inveraray Town Jail"

The actual Victorian prison has been re-furbished and uses dummies and audio-visual media to give visitors the experience of what it felt like 200 years ago.The Courthouse is particularly well re-created,using recorded extracts from actual cases.

"Oban,Gateway to the Islands"

Oban is an hour's drive from Inveraray .You can catch ferries here for the islands of Mull,Iona etc
Hotels,restaurants,shops are excellent.
