Haunted Flat on High Street?

by Arbuckle

I just spent a week in a flat on High Street, Oban, and there was some serious supernatural activity going on on the final evening: repeated knocking on the inside of a locked cupboard, cold air currents swirling around in the hallway outside the cupboard door and a general feeling of unease. Plus on the previous night, something banged hard against my bedroom door (located right next to the locked cupboard), like it was trying to get into the room.

Does anyone know if there's a history of haunting in a property on High Street? Or where to try to find out?

There are lots of haunted places in Scotland. I dont know about where you stayed, but I am sure there is some organization that lists them and gives their history. Search the web. I am sure you'll find what you are looking for.

Travel Tips for Oban

The Bay

by shivan

This is why I was talking about sunny evenings.
This is the scenery approaching the sunset.
I am mad at sunset, you know it, and one like this repays me for all the miles I had to drive to come to Oban.
Don't miss it.

Argyll Shukokai

Well, I am a major karate fan. I did karate for about 8 years when I was younger, and then gave it up when I moved to Glasgow as I couldn't find a club that was suitable. However, now that I have moved back up here, I have joined Argyll Shukokai.

This is a great club, and if you are looking at staying in Oban for an extended period of time, and are looking for a great way to keep fit, this is it!

There is a class every Monday night at the Old Crofters which is just off of Combie street, above Stoddarts. Classes start at 7.00pm for kids and 8.00pm for adults and the cost is only £2.50. For those above green belt, like myself, there is also a Kata class on a Friday at 7.30pm. The instructors are great, and new members are always welcome.

Good websites to check out are www.argyll-shukokai.co.uk and www.argyllshukokai.cjb.net

KILMARTIN GLEN

This area begins about 30 miles south of Oban and streches down nearly to Lochgiplhead. Its has one of the highest concentrations of ancient sites in Scotland including standing stones, prehistoric burial chambers and the Iron Age fort of Dunadd.

GATEWAY TO THE ISLES

by hevbell

The island of Kerrera with the larger island of Mull behind it, as seen from McCaigs Folly. Oban is the main departure point for ferries to Mull and other islands in the Hebrides. You can see Cal Mac ferries crossing to the islands regularly. There are also seal cruises available from the esplanade.

Dunstaffnage Chapel

by stevezero

A short walk south west from the main castle buildings is the chapel, built at the end of the 1200s and extended in 1740. In the ruins, the remains of the paired windows in the chancel show a high standard of workmanship. The eastern extension to the chapel forms the burial aisle to the Campbells of Dunstaffnage, whose monuments are amongst those still standing within the shell of the building.
