Accomodation In Oban

by stefanfarr8

Dear All,

we will be visting Oban just for one day and we plan to sleep over. We are looking for an accomodation which is in the city center and which is not so expensive (say 60 GBP for a double room).

Can you recommend anything in particular? What do you think of the Kelvin Hotel and The Balmoral Inn? Are these central? Has anyone stayed in them?

Regards
Stefan Malta

Re: Accomodation In Oban

The Kelvin is not in the prettiest location but from friends who have stayed there I think it's OK for the price. Convenient for the ferry terminal.

Personally I would stay in one of the hotels along the Esplanade I think rather than in the very centre. Gorgeous views, but reflected in the price perhaps.

In teh Centre, I've staye din ethe Caledonian and quite liked it - ovepriced maybe, I can't really remember. Don' let them have your email address though as they still email me years later.

There are some nice B&B s in Oban too.

Travel Tips for Oban

I was enjoying the sun....

by shivan

....aware it may be the last I'd get in Scotland.
I must say I've been particularly lucky this year, because I got 50% sunny days and no rain at all!
If you are lucky enough to come here in a sunny afternoon, Oban can be really enjoyable.
Don't miss a walk along the marina and the tiny streets

Bring a plastic bag to take your litter home

by scottishvisitor

Glenco is owned & managed by the National Trust for Scotland. They have an eco friendly policy here, hence there are no litter bins anywhere. So please respect this & take your litter home. If you plan on hill walking or just a stroll hiking boots are a must. The terrain changes & conditions can be very wet & slippery. Climbing the mountains is really only for the experienced.

Fort William

by keeweechic

Fort William lies on the shore of Loch Linnhe in the shadow of Ben Nevis and was originally one of the Jacobite Forts which was built to subdue the Highlanders. It is now a busy service town and Tourist Centre, made even more popular with the making of the movies 'Rob Roy' and 'Braveheart' in the area.

Visit the Only Bridge to Span the Atlantic

by scottishvisitor

The Island of Seil is seperated from Scotland by a narrow inlet of sea. However this sea is non other than the Atlantic Ocean, albeit a tiny part.. Crossing this bridge by car gives you a very strange feeling, on meeting the crown of the bridge your car seems to travel through air as your eyes lose contact with the road & all you see is the sky & distant trees.

If you love seaside holidays this is your place

by scottishvisitor

We only passed through Oban to go to Glencoe. If you like seaside towns this is for you. If I am in this area again might check it out!
