Hairdressers/beauticians in Oban area
by Spreeuw
Hello,
This may be a rather strange question, but I'll ask it anyway. I'm getting married at the Ardanaiseig Hotel on Loch Awe (about 45 minutes from Oban) and am looking for a hairdresser and beautician in the area, and preferably one that could come out to the hotel on the morning of 26 February 2005 to do my hair and makeup. I won't have an awful lot of time in the morning to go to Oban and back myself.
I hope someone can help me out.
Looking forward to my trip to Scotland :-)

Not sure if you found anyone yet, but have you asked the hotel if they can help you arrange something? If you are getting married there, I would imagine that they would want to assist you however possible.
Wishing you a very happy special day.
Travel Tips for Oban
Fishermen
by shivan
This picture is not related to what I want to say here.
There are many places where to have a nice dinner here in Oban, but I suggest not to miss the fisherman hut on the north pier, just behind the tourist shop (by the way, there is a great whiskies selection available there).
At the hut you may taste really really fresh seafood, just boiled and prepared for you, for just a few pounds. A tradition to respect
Distillery Visitor Centre

Located in Stafford Street (near the North Pier) is open Monday to Friday all year round for guided tours. We didn’t really went in but passing by almost everyday. We like to walk around the town searching for road less travelled by visitors.
CARNASSERIE CASTLE
by hevbell
This is the first place you come to when driving south into Kilmartin Glen. I almost missed the turn off as there was just a very small sign [so be vigilent!]. There is a car park beside the road and then you have to walk up the hill for about 5 mins to reach the castle. Its not too steep though.
The castle, a 16 Century fortified house, is now under the care of Historic Scotland but entry is free. Although its ruined to some extent you can still climb right up to the top for a great view over the valley.
Connel Bridge
by stevezero
Joining the settlements of Connel and North Connel, the Connel Bridge lies across the entrance to Loch Etive. Built in 1901, it is the second largest cantilever bridge in Britain, bearing more than a passing resemblence to the Forth Rauil Bridge. It was constructed originally to convey the railway to Ballachulish but the bridge was modified in 1914 to allow use by both rail and road traffic, until the railway branch closed in 1966. Owing to its narrow carriageway, traffic signals operate allowing vehicles to cross the bridge in only one direction at a time.
OBAN DISTILLERY
by hevbell
This is where they produce Oban West Highland Malt whisky. The distillery, founded in 1794, is unusual in itself as its situated bang in the centre of town where most are in the country or at least the outskirts of town and near a water supply. You can take a 45 minute tour of the distillery (£3) which I found very interesting and of course at the end of the tour you get a "wee dram"! If you buy a bottle of whisky from the shop after the tour you get the £3 off so effectively the tour is then free. Or you can just go into the shop without taking the tour. The distillery is located just off George Street.
Questions and Answers
Q: Oban Ferry Terminal - long wait, what to do? "Does the ferry terminal have a place to store bags?
Is there anything to do within a very short walk from the terminal area -..."
A: "Short answer is, I shouldn't imagine that there is a left luggage place at the ferry terminal. You could always email www.ports.or.g.uk and ask, or phone 01631 566688..."
