My wife and myself have just come home after a four night stay
at the Station Hotel. It was clean, comfortable, all the basics in
the room worked, and the heating was on even in the glorious
weather we had. The meals were excellent. and the Staff were
very attentive to our needs, always pleasant, courteous and
amicable. We will be back, God willing.
We did not pay a lot for this hotel as got a deal on the internet. Room large but very very hot. Radiator on all the time and we could not adjust it. Had to have the window open all the time which is not very eco friendly. Food was ok but not much choice. Hotel was clean and out towels were changed regularly. It was an ok visit for what we paid but would not go back.
Reading other reviews, yes the hotel is an old building, old fashioned lift but I cannot fault my stay in any way.
We were booked in for an overnight (Saturday) stay prior to flying abroad for xmas. It served the purpose well. Greeted by a very pleasant chatty receptionist, was an excellent location for strolling the shops, and they have a lovely bar upstair for a quiet evening drink.
We expected it to be noisy as there was "Works Party evenings" being held that weekend. We didn't hear a sound.
Good choice for breakfast, yoghurt, fruit, cereal & cooked breakfast, again served by pleasant staff. I would recommend this, especially if u get the excellent internet deals X
The hotel is a beautiful red sandstone Victorian building, very impressive from the outside. The location is great too, being only a short walk from the town centre.
The welcome we received at reception was very warm and throughout our stay we received coureous and individual attention. Apart from reception, most staff seemed to be East European, however they were always polite and helpful.
As the name suggests this hotel is located at the train station so we were a little concerned about noise, but apart from one or two isolated incidents, we weren't disturbed as the trains are very quiet. Only the station announcements were slightly annoying.
This old hotel is full of character and grandeur which made it a pleasure to stay. So different from most modern chain hotels. The main staircase is impressive and ceilings are high.
The bedroom was slightly in need of refurbishment and elegant old windows were draughty but nothing too bad and it had character in spades which made up for everything.
I would recommend this hotel for its history, elegance and helpfulness of staff.

It appears the staff have rooms in the same areas as the guests which is unfortunate unless you like being woke at 4am when they have finished partying.
