Travel Tips for Dundee

Dundee Tip

by StirCrazy

I love Broughty Ferry. Once a popular seaside resort, it is now little more than a suburb of the city of Dundee. But it retains some of its character, and is a thriving little shopping community. Best thing to do is visit Visocchi's Ice Cream Parlour on Gray Street, or buy fish and chips and eat them down by the harbour as the evening light fades (just watch out for the hungry seagulls!)

Olympia Leisure Complex

by Dizee

The Olympia Leisure Complex is brilliant fun, especially if its a rainy day and your family is looking for something to do. The leisure pool has rapids, a wave machine, 4 flumes (watch out for the yellow cannonball run - you drop a few metres into the diving pool!). The diving pool has 1 and 3 metre springboards and a 5 metre platform. There is also a training pool for normal swimming. Its quite good value at around £3.80 for adults and £2.60 for children for a minimum of 1.5 hours (longer when its not too busy). Also has a health and fitness suite and climbing wall plus a reasonably priced cafe (coffee and a large sausage roll for £2).
If my kids had their way we would go there every day! Warning - it is exhausting after a while. Anything goes - even dodgy speedos!

Glamis Castle

by margaretvn

Glamis Castle - the childhood hone of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother is beautiful.
This is the childhood home of Elizabeth, The Queen Mother at Glamis near Forfar. The wonderful and fairytale like castle with the long drive up to it was once (in the 11th century) a hunting lodge. It was extensively recontraucted in the 17th century. Many of the rooms are open to the public but it is still a family home and in use as such. Duncans Hall is the oldest room in the castle and is said to be the setting for Shakespeare's setting for the king's murder in his play Macbeth. Some of the gardens are open to the public and the Italian garden is wonderful

"Into."

Dundee (Scumdee) is set at the bank of the River Tay. Not the nicest area to live in with the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the Wrold. However, it is good for shopping so i visit frequently. Shopping in Dundee isn't too busy and has most of the good shops.

Dundee

Dundee is the fourth city in Scotland and is located at the foot of the Sidlaw mountains, in the north side of the Tay's stuary.
The old city suffered deep changes in the XIX century because the industrial boom.
In the city square are the Caird Hall, the Cathredal and the three churches that share the same roof and are called the "City Churches".
In the port zone is possible to see the Discovery, the ship that Captain Scott used in his trip to the Antartic and its museum called Discovery Point.
Dundee is a nice city full of students and close to nice places, so is a good start point to visit St. Andrews, Glamis, ...
