Dundee Tip

This is a picture of the gravestone next to the Carrie gravestone. I was deeply touched by this heartbreaking gravestone. Can you imagine losing 6 children under the age of 5? I guess they were fortunate to have one son who lived to the ripe old age of 77. We saw many gravestones like this, where many children died at a young age. Life must have been hard in Scotland in the late 1800's.
ice cool

Ice hockey venue. Other ice sports as well. Good modern facility. Easy access from Dundee ring road. The ice is good for skating, because its a modern well maintained ice pad.
Home to several hockey clubs (junior, senior & recreational), best known being Dundee Texol Stars - www.dundeetexolstars.com
Have to advise against eating the food, but you have burger & chicken fast food places outside, plus a decent Indian resto and a pub food type place.
Cinema next door. Skates can be hired, but not good quality. There is also a shop to buy all kinds of gear.
This castle made the scenery for many movies
by globetrott
This castle made the scenery to many famous movies like " The Highlander " and others.
You will need about 2 hours to explore this castle, including the walk from the parking .
You also have a great view over the sea and may imagine, how easily the old knights would have detected enemies approaching.
Dundee

Dundee is another place I visited in my youth, long before I knew of VT, so I have few memories and no photos from those days.
On a train journey from Edinburgh to Aberdeen in 2009, we passed through Dundee and I managed to get a few poor shots to justify claiming a page.
"under construction"
Dundee is actually a good place to stay if wanting to explore the area.
In the town itself is St Mary's Parish Church , originally built in 1190. It has fine 19th and 20th century stained glass windowas.
The Discovery Centre is the place to go to learn more about RRS Discovery, and Robert Falcon Scott's journey to be the first to reach the South Pole/
Further afield is Glamis Castle, childhood home of the late Queen Mother; Dunnottar Castle at Dunecht and Scone Palace [30 minutes away] , the former seat of the Kings of Scotl
And if interested in early inhabitants of Scotland, visit Pictavia at Brechin Castle Centre and Country Park.

"Teacher Exchange in Scotland"
Thanks to a teacher-exchange-programme I had the great opportunity to go to Scotland in May 2003. So I went to Montrose Academy (Angus County) to get to know the school and the scottish education-system a little bit. It was very interesting and I met many nice people. The fact that one of my best friends is studying in Dundee this year made the week even more perfect. I could stay with him and go to the pubs with him in the evenings. I really loved my week in Scotland.
