Wow this is the only place on earth that i think marrying your close relatives is law. It was like god got an ugly stick and beat everyone within a 40 mile radius.
Redeeming features it is close to 'T in The Park' The bearded lady and the man with 4 ears.
About 12 miles north of Perth is the small town of Dunkeld, proclaimed Scotland's ecclessiastic capital way back in 850. It flourished for more than 800 years before being ransacked by soldiers loyal to the English.
Its a cute little whitewashed place aside the river Tay, with a partly ruined cathedral. Originally 12th century, much of what we see today is 14th and 15th century with any number of additions and renovations.
The main Perth-Inverness trains stop here.
The mighty River Tay at low flow in May. Just a couple of miles out of Perth centre - a beautiful footpath follows the bank and can be cycled from the North Inch park. A popular route for locals but rarely seen by any tourists as they rush by up the A9 motorway - see my Tayside Tips for more info.
Perth is located approximately 22 miles west from Dundee and is easy to reach just off the M90. I like visiting Perth as it is a complete contrast to Dundee, less bustle, scenic walks by the river, good shops, lots of places to eat and a couple of good parks to let your children and pets let off steam (one even contains a boating lake with rowing boats and paddle boats).
