Selby
"Selby Abbey"
I'd love to say that Selby is a pretty little market town and it so nearly is - but sadly it isn't. Selby is blighted by big and ugly industrial buildings from the nearby power station to the huge Hovis factory that seems to engulf the town. Having said that Selby does have one very redeeming feature, it's 1,000 year old abbey. A beautiful (if much changed and restored over the centuries) example of Norman archicture. At just 12 miles south of York the abbey is a worthwhile diversion if visiting the attractions of it's more illustrious neighbour.
